A bit of history; In 1864 the Democrats met in Chicago and nominated George McClellan, George was in NYC, not Chicago. He did not travel to Chi to accept the nomination, In fact, he was a bit annoyed with the party platform and it took him three days to accept the nomination!

I recall that conventions are usually accompanied by a poll bump Day 1, in contrast with the GOP, would seem to be VERY positive for polling. [Meanwhile, if Trump does lose this thing (which seems increasingly likely) it seems to me that the GOP is in serious trouble.]
