Politics Bill Maher dines with The Donald

I think it’s possible Maher may have been sincere early in his career, but he jumped over to “gimmick” a long time ago. But, yeah, it’s been profitable for him and I’m sure with interviews like this it continues to be so.

Yeah, I think he made it pretty clear he wouldn't re-sign after the upcoming season unless he went to Houston, SA, or Miami. At that point, Phoenix had very little leverage.

    Sports NBA thread

It's not that the NBA isn't great at marketing, it's that in many ways the games have become second place to the "drama" of player movement. It's not terribly dissimilar to how recruiting has taken over CFB (and CBB) as a year-round "sport" while the games only last for a few months.

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

I'll do my answers by number, since it works so well. 1) I don't reject outright "that politics can be about building trust, changing minds, or shifting emotional terrain", but I do have deep reservations that it is an effective on-going political strategy, especially if we're talking about the...

I would argue that's a fair standard, but I'm open to other arguments.

I totally misread that part, thanks for the correction. That's something good. Yay!

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

A little feedback that's meant to be positive and not critical..you read into my posts a lot of assumptions that are not only not there, but are incorrect. (That's not just true in this post, in nearly all of our discussions over time. It really makes it difficult to hold a discussion with you.)...

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

My hunch on this is that we have a small but significant group of Pub/Pub-lean voters - likely urban, pro-business Pubs - who tend to vote centrist Dem for governor as a firewall against what they know will be a fairly conservative GA due to the votes of the rural areas around NC. They want an...

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

I think most purple states aren't strictly purple, they're often closer to magenta (more red than blue) or violet (more blue than red). I think of NC as a magenta state in that it leans red while having a real opportunity to go blue in most elections.

Politics U of F Law School Should Lose Accreditation.

I actually agree with the law school here. While I find the argument he makes abhorrent, it should be judged within a law school class by how well it makes a legal argument. (I will say here that I am in no way, shape, or form qualified to make that determination.) But I think you can make a...

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

Cooper was a bland, uncharismatic moderate who beat another bland, uncharismatic moderate who was unpopular with his own party by a tiny, tiny margin for numerous reasons. He also benefited from a shift in the opposition party that drove moderates to him and away from his opponent based on...

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

HB2 was a minor loss in an otherwise winning war for Pubs...they had to overturn one bill (which was then enacted in many places through local legislation) and lost a centrist Pub governorship to a centrist Dem governorship. And the real impetus for the victory wasn't because of "shifting the...

Politics Is this why Dem’s Approval Rating Polls are so bad?

You're correct that I want to win elections. I would love for Dems to sweep the 2028 elections with filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and a massive advantage in the House. But I know that given the geographic and gerrymandered advantages of the Pub across the country, that is nearly...
