I don't know if there is a statute of limitations, but she should be charged ......

Crystal Mangum, who accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape, now says she lied

Crystal Mangum, the former exotic dancer who accused three Duke men’s lacrosse players of rape in 2006, igniting a national firestorm, now says she lied about the encounter.

“I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn’t, and that was wrong. And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me,” Mangum said on the web show “Let’s Talk with Kat,” hosted by Katerena DePasquale.

The interview took place at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, where Mangum is serving time for a 2013 second-degree murder conviction for stabbing her boyfriend.

“I made up a story that wasn’t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God,” Mangum said.

That was the story that made me completely cut ties with Rolling Stone Magazine. I'd had issues with their sensationalized reporting before then, but that was the moment that I realized I could no longer support the House that Hunter S. Thompson built.

Yeah. Better late than never. Have the Duke faculty and president done the same? Has Durham law enforcement? I know that Nifong really took it on the chin but there was a lot more blame to go around.

Unless it has changed, NC doesn’t have a statute of limitations for criminal felony charges. But I believe the statute of limitations for a civil false claim allegation would be 6 years.

And looking into this, the Duke president did apologize. One of the the investigators for the Durham police end up leaving his job and committing suicide although I have no idea if the Crystal Magnum thing had anything to do with it.

I don't remember clearly, but I don't think the case got far enough for her to testify under oath, which would have been felony perjury.

If that's the case, the only charge would be misdemeanor false police report. Which would have a statute of limitations and wouldn't make any sense to pursue regardless. She's in prison for murder.

Yeah, if it is just a misdemeanor, the Statute of Limitations will have long since run. And it has run for any civil action. -- When I heard the story at lunch today, I missed the beginning so missed her being in jail for second degree murder (which I could have known by clicking the link).

You don't have google?
No. I have Google. I think everyone who is able to access this website would have Google. It's free and really easily accessible. Which is why I quoted myself with the Duke president's apology and the suicide of one of the investigating detectives two posts below mine.

I remember Rolling Stone going off the rails about an alleged University of Virginia gang rape. I don't remember the Duke lacrosse coverage being crazy, but could be wrong. I don't read a whole lot from rolling Stone magazine.

That was a big one:

That was a few years after a UVA lacrosse player murdered his girlfriend.

No sense to charge her. She is already in prison for murdering her boyfriend.

I remember shortly after the Duke LAX case and shortly after she murdered her boyfriend but while she was still awaiting trial. A student group at UNC invited her to speak about her "experiences". Some people have strange role models.
