It wasn’t intended to minimize any individual/group. More a jab at the DNC for rarely passing up a chance to message poorly when trying to sway moderate or slightly right leaning voters who are fed up with MAGA.
Fair. I just get weary of the hyperfocus on getting people who are reluctant to vote Dem to switch sides rather than getting actual Dems energized enough to get out and vote. We don't energize our own voters by watering down our message and pandering to the right and means-testing every program within an inch of its life and hiding the non-white male members of our coalition, we do it by having actual values and fighting for them. Although I will admit that my proposed campaign message of "fuck you, asshole, I'm going to pay for your healthcare" has not been focus-grouped so I don't know if it will play.

I understand your point, and it’s not a zero-sum game… but those swing voters in the middle are engaged, and Dem non-voters are not. It’s far easier to persuade someone who’s engaged than to motivate someone who isn’t.

How the White House tried – and failed – to push a candidate out of a Republican state Senate primary in Indiana

With Trump’s sights set on unseating Indiana lawmakers who opposed his redistricting effort, his aides and allies feared a third candidate could play spoiler in one race.

One would hope the Orbán result in Hungary would serve as a bellwether. Thoughts from the "normal" leaders of the free world:

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, a frequent target of Orbán's pronouncements, said, ‘’Europe is Hungarian today.''
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called it “an historic moment, not only for Hungary, but for European democracy.''
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz messaged Magyar: ‘’Let’s join forces for a strong, secure and, above all, united Europe. Gratulálok, kedves Magyar Péter!”
French President Emmanuel Macron said that "France welcomes the victory of democratic participation, the Hungarian people’s commitment to the values of the European Union.''

Hopefully, with a bit o' luck, these same leaders will announce similar statements in the first week of November, 2026
