So, got a conundrum.

The guy who has been doing my taxes since I was a teenager retired. Said he would recommend to me and all his customers a new person locally when he was finishing up last tax season.

That...never happened.

So, looking for the best rated/decently priced tax software/website/person in the Triad. Figured I'd use this to start a thread about the tax season while I was at it.

Anyone who might try to make a recommendation will probably need to know how complicated your taxes are. How many different sources of income? How many different types of deductions? Any big changes last year? etc. Not saying you need to share all of that here but it would be helpful to have a sense for how complicated your taxes are.

You don't have a way to contact the old guy and ask for the recommendation?

I’m still waiting for a brokerage firm to send me my tax statement. They say it’s been delayed.

I'm also in need of a CPA, have some tax questions regarding an inheritance. Not the time of year to be looking for a CPA!

I use TurboTax- they have all my info at this point so it’s pretty painless. Granted my tax situation is not complicated- W-2, brokerage and some interest/dividends. It’s like $99 and they’ll deduct it from your refund instead of paying up front if you want to.

Used HR Block software for 15 years but last year they had a glitch for an energy tax credit I was due. Switched to freetaxusa and was very pleased. Did a better job with rental income as well.

I just use the Cash App’s tax filing program. Works fine and is free for federal and one state.
