Going to be tough moving forward to remain “the designated liberal arts branch of The University of North Carolina” with the elimination of the departments of Philosophy, Classics (Ancient Mediterranean Studies), Religious Studies, and Drama.
My goodness

My goodness

Also no more French and German majors (Latin eliminated with Classics) though intro classes will e taught (for the time being) in those languages.

I’m afraid the BOG isn’t done with UNCA or the System.

I know UNCA changed the name of my old major and eliminated one of the four concentrations which is the one I ended up doing.

UNCA students will not return to campus but rather finish out the semester online beginning on Oct. 28.

This troubles me but without potable water in so many places I’m hard pressed what else can be done.

That sucks. Same kids got screwed by COVID online class in HS already. I know, what are we supposed to do.

Some students take to Zoom classes very well -- others not so much. The same goes for instructors.

In teaching Hybrid classes I've even found students that were actually much more engaged in discussion in the online meetings than they were in the face-to-face ones.

An interesting thing that I have found out is that when students are placed into break-out rooms of three or four of their peers they almost always turn on their cameras and become much more animated and communicative. For that reason I try and work out assignments when we do that sort of thing. With some imagination and dedication Zoom instruction can be quite interactive.

Yeah, it’s such a terrible situation. I didn’t realize you taught at UNCA. That’s awesome. I live up in Woodfin and we frequent Hickory Nut Gap in/near Fairview. When the city gets going again would love to get drink (alcohol or not)
