What a fiasco this was. I am glad that this project was ultimately completed, as it will only benefit Atlantans. Proponents faced and ultimately defeated a well organized campaign against the project that often included violence and terrorism aimed at those who supported it.

Why didn't they just expand the School of the Americas or whatever they call it these days at Fort Benning? Same mentality, isn't it?

I'm guessing distance. Benning is several hours away from Atlanta. The training facility is not just used by the police department but also by the fire department and by EMS, as the FD's existing training facilities had been condemned. You don't want training that can be done in 2-3 hours to be a multi-day event due to travel time.
