For those seeking justification for the scope of the pardon of Hunter —-

I do think once he was going to pardon Hinter because persecution, it was pointless to do so without a blanket pardon. Which still doesn’t mean I think he should have done it, but since it was a foregone conclusion from at least the moment he dropped out, I’m struggling to gin up shock or surprise.

Right. Biden's actions are very understandable as a father. And within the letter of his pardon power as president. But from the perspective of anyone who wants to avoid a further slide into kleptocracy, authoritarianism, etc this is unquestionably a negative thing.
Unquestionably? I think it moves the needle not at all, which is why I have been largely uninterested in the whole saga. I think this will be forgotten shortly, as it should be. All farces have ridiculous endings. This one is no different.

And Hunter not being pardoned would not arrest that slide into kleptocracy one bit. Not one bit.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. But to my knowledge he hasn’t been formally charged or credibly accused of dealing (depending on how you categorize paying hookers with blow, I guess — barter or dealing?)
Or, buddies think late at night, “Hunter has blow. I’ll call him.” Hunter sells his buddies blow. Hunter has sold blow; Hunter is not a dealer.

Good. I’m glad he did. Whether I agree with it or not, at this point anything that pisses off Republicans and Trumpistas is okay by me.

Did Callatoroy denounce this or is Callatoroy a hypocrite?
I am a lot of things, some likely not so good, but I am not a hypocrite. You won't find me trying to defend trump on everything he does and I sure as hell don't mind stating it. But unlike this board (in general, not including everyone) I haven't spent the last 4 years painting myself in a corner of hypocrisy due to TDS. It blocks all rational thought and that has been the case here. Everything you guys have been preaching and posturing about the left's moral high ground and rule of law, and integrity, and democracy, and blah blah blah, joe just undid in a weekend act to absolve his son from lying about paying taxes and getting a gun. joe is trump, just packaged differently and plays for your team. The sooner you guys open your eyes and realize you have been lied to REPEATEDLY by the media you consume and the president you regard as a hero, the sooner you can start to see things closer to objectivity rather than blind partisanship. The ones that are most comical are the ones where you think trump wasn't politically targeted by the DOJ, but somehow hunter was. Those are the real fools, sheep, and tiny thinkers.

Nice try...

I don't think it will serve you well to line up Trump's crimes next to Hunter's.

You may not like Don Jr., Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany or Barren but they seem to be well adjusted, successful individuals who are not addicted to crack/cocaine and don't spend $$$ whoring around town filming themselves. I don't recall any serious legal issues involving the Trump kids. His children have great children as well.
Even if you disagree with Ramrouser, your principled stance against Bosiding shouldn't allow trump's kids activities to cloud your judgement about this issue correct? This isn't about trump right? This is about a president who absolved his kid from committing tax fraud and lying on an application to obtain a horrible instrument of killing and destruction. Where did your moral high ground go? Washed away from Helene? If you try to use trump as any justification then you are a hypocrite and Bosider. That's soooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. How do I know that? Why from years and years of listening to you guys trash conservatives as being hypocrites and Bosiders of course.

Not trying to line up anything of trumps next to hunter's. This isn't about trump. This is about the rule of law and the left's hypocrisy when its their side that abuses it. Kudos and respect to you for not being a hypocrite and denouncing it. So, any comments I make in this thread don't apply to you.

Brother, nobody actually cares about the rule of law anymore. You don't, I don't, the American voters don't. Quit whatever this pathetic posturing is.

If I cared about the rule of law, I wouldn't harbor such little give-a-damn about Biden's pardon of his son, even though I vehemently disagree with it in principle. If you care about the rule of law, you wouldn't have voted for someone who is a convicted felon. If the American voters cared about the rule of law, 75 million of them wouldn't have voted for someone who has defied the rules of law at every turn in his adult life.

We are in a post-truth, post-"rule of law" era in our country and you are just as guilty of enabling it as I am, or as the Democrats are, or as any of the other 75 million voters who voted for it.

First, Biden is not a "good dad." He enabled this POS his entire life allowing him to grift off his offices. He's a 55 year old man and he's still dependent upon Daddy.

Second, this is the most broad and expansive pardon given by a President since Ford pardoned Nixon. Why not just pardon him for the gun and tax charges?

Third, Biden confirmed that the DOJ is weaponized - he just believes it was weaponized against his own son - so he's conceded the larger point that the DOJ exists to serve the Elites and go after their enemies.

So you claim to care about the rule of law but you voted for Trump. Hypocrite.

Trump pardoned people who were coconspirators in crimes that Trump himself was implicated in. This was to buy silence.

There was no intent to obstruct justice here. The intent of the pardon is clear. It was given from a dad to a son he thought was being unfairly targeted. Whether you agree with that rationale (I do) there is no intent to obstruct a larger ongoing investigation.

Joe Biden is not implicated in Hunter’s crimes. These crimes had nothing to do with any action Biden or any administration official has ever taken whether as president or not.

This has nothing to do with the rule of law other than the obvious fact that a single person was pardoned for relatively minor offenses.

Anyone who thinks this is remotely comparable to using the pardon power to obstruct justice in crimes that the president may have committed is just a fool.

There are a lot of lawyers who post here so no idea if you're referring to me, but just in case you are, I said this back on page 8, and I still believe it six hours later. :)

"And I CERTAINLY agree what Trump has already done with the pardon power, and what he's certain to do within the first day or two of taking office again, is immensely more egregious than this action by Biden."
I suspect the reference was to the Ramrouser cat.
