Biorhythms for @Kentucky: 9:30 Start

Perhaps, but that’s not what most people were bitching about two and three years ago
Maybe i’m wrong, thought the complaints were that we’d run sets poorly and they would bog down and end up with a caleb or RJ high ball screen. Looked very similar to the 2nd to last possession that Dixon hit the step back 3. It’s not an aesthetically pleasing style of basketball imo, i much prefer a secondary into motion. But im much happier arguing about this at 7-1 with 2 top 25 wins than last year or 2023

Perhaps. But the so-called sets run poorly was not what folks were moaning about specifically. Not as I recall. The bitching and moaning seemed like it was always "we don't run any offense at all" "RJ and Caleb just pound the ball, and then jack something up at the end of the shot clock" "Hubert can't coach offense... why doesn't he run any sets?" and "Hubert never has a decent play called out of a time-out" etc. etc.

I don't ever recall a rant like: "We don't run the set play that Hubert called very well and we get bogged down".

If that was indeed what folks were complaining about... then that wasn't on Coach Davis... that was on the players who "run sets poorly and they would bog down" as you say. The rant was usually not meant to throw the players under the bus, only Davis.

I agree with Super on this one. Hubert just can't win in terms of how we perceive his offensive ideas for his team.

But I like the bit about it's better to argue this at 7-1...

Two points, in fairness to others:

1. We definitely heard a lot of that, but it wasn't necessarily the position of more knowledgeable people. I haven't been on the basketball boards forever, so maybe there were some people saying, "yeah, we run a lot of sets but . . . "

2. It is hardly uncommon for criticisms of a coach to morph throughout the tenure. Ultimately, people are unhappy with the results. If we made the Final Four last year or the year before, nobody would really care about sets. But the amount of time that people want to talk about sports vastly exceeds the amount of time needed to explain the various concerns. You can say, "we should never have missed the tournament" in one sentence. you can repeat it 1000 times. You still have months worth of time to fill. And so "we should have never missed the tournament" becomes, "well, the reason is that our offense is terrible, because HD does or doesn't do this." If HD does start doing it (for instance -- not saying it's only starting now), that doesn't address the underlying problem, which is the results. That problem is only going to be addressed in March, and until then people want shit to say.
