UNC and Louisville are tied in the ACC with records of 9 wins and 5 losses. Since 1998 UNC has won 14 and U of L has won 6. The Cardinals are a storied program from one of the other great college basketball states (KY). As seems to be perpetually the case in the statistically overrun, percentage heavy, projection maddening, data crunched world of college basketball, this is another ‘must-win’ for The Tar Heels. Henri Veesaar’s return to the pivot means a great deal and the maturation of Zayden High has been a positively surprising development of late…now Carolina’s guards and wings have to step-up their games, in particular on the perimeter with tenacious three point defense and dead-eye three point offense. The home court environment tonight must be partisan and raucous (though please – not dookish). Stand up and Scream Tar Heel Faithful. Do what you can from home too Tar Heel Nation. Be prepared to Go Where You Go and Do What You Do. Get your shirt…or your special socks and hat and make it happen.

Frontcourt: Veesaar looks muted but smart. High is strong. Stevenson soars.

Wings: Bogavac is physical and bright. Powell is Fire and Ice.

Guards: Seth Trimble has above average looks while Derek Dixon is athletic and motivated. Kyan Evans is gangbusters while Jaydon Young can contribute.

Overall: U of L shoots the Three – nationally only Alabama takes more – 33 times a game. They hit 12 on average for a team percentage of 36.1. So they are flinging it up at will. Scorer Ryan Conwell (#3, 6-4 Sr. 18.4ppg, 5 rpg) hits at 35%. He’s joined by one of the best freshman guards in the game, Mikel Brown (#0, 6-5, 18.6ppg, 5apg, 34.5% from 3pt). Designated shooter Isaac McKneely transferred over from UVA to hit 39% at a 11ppg clip. That trio must be wrangled at mid-court and worried relentlessly or they will light up the Smith Center. Trimble, Dixon, Evens, Powell, Stevenson, and Bogavac cannot let up for even a second around the arc. The Cardinals have a Giant German at center in Sananda Fru (6-11 and 250, 10.2ppg, 6.6rpg, and shooting 75% from the floor). Wingman J’Vonne Hadley (6-7, 11ppg, 5.5rpg) also shoots 42% from long distance. From the bench Big Man Aly Khalifa spent time in Charlotte after Egypt and brings a 6-11 frame and 4ppg and 2.2rpg. He will shoot the Trey and hit at 41%. 6-5 Adrian Wooley scores from inside and out at 8.3ppg and also shoots the three at 34%. Freshman Khani Rooths is 6-8 and does good work in the paint (6.9ppg, 6.2rpg) and Vangelis Zougris of Greece adds height and 3.1ppg and 2.5rpg. Pat Kelsey is a clever man who let’s them run rampant if he can.

Both teams have some good looking biorhythms tonight. The three will be The Tell. Stop them…hold them to below their normal and hit at our best and the Heels win. Let them go without a hand in their face and no worries on their mind and this one goes to the Red. Ritmos think the Heels can do this. Carolina by 6.

Screw the score as long as we end up ahead. Wish I felt some optimism. Their guards look like a problem.
The positive is we are undefeated at home; the negative is we are playing a top 25 team that is 6-1 over its last 7 games.

I am cautiously optimistic we might eek out a win, but a "good win" would be better for our metrics;)

It looks like they play a 4 guard 1 C/F starting 5 and much of their points come from the 3 pt line

How we perform on perimeter defense and how we perform on inside offense will determine the outcome in my very humble opinion.

If our guards are going to continue to take 25 threes a game we've got to hit at least 9. And free throws absolutely must channel the spirit of Coach Lotz.

The top 6 in the poll makes sense. After that it seems it's all over the place when you look at the teams' records.

I think coach Lotz would be pulling out his hair.

So many players today have little appreciation for the value of making free throws.

I feel like this is one is similar to dook game where we are down a majority of the game, maybe even double digits at times, and will require a a spirited comeback. Need Trimble to be aggressive and at his best.

Sprited comeback would be fun
