I heard that they are expecting wind gusts of up to 100 mph in the area. They are in trouble.

You can track their live evacuation orders here

It seems like we are going to reach a tipping point soon where many places are completely uninsurable. I work in commercial real estate, and I have projects where insurance costs have doubled since they were underwritten 3 years ago, effectively making them unable to stabilize through operations without massive rent increases. The impact these disasters have on housing costs is only going to get worse as the disasters intensify due to climate change.

In the vast majority of the fire damage cases in California, the houses are in the hills. At some point, those houses will not be rebuilt anymore and LA/SF will go more vertical in the flat areas.

As someone in WNC still reeling from Hurricane Helene - I can sympathize. Life has yet to return to "normal" and won't for a long while yet to come. And for many, it will never be the same. The Apocalypse has already come and gone for some around here.

Jacob Soboroff of NBC grew up in Pacific Palisades. He posted this about an hour ago:

The Lord has spoken, California. Change your ways and repent now!

Tornadoes are en route.

Obviously it's Trump so it's a lie, but for those interested in reality, Newsom has actually irritated environmentalists in CA because he has, in their view, been too ready to let humans use the water and thus the fish populations are dying. So of course the opposite of what Trump said.

It's really too much to expect Trump to understand the idea that you have to save the fish to save the ecosystem, and you have to save the ecosystem to save the crops. It's just too difficult for him. He's a man who stands at the base of a mountain and has no concept that the world continues on the other side.

I have a few friends in north Santa Monica (“NoMa”) bordering Pacific Palisades who seem to feel ok, and it seems to be moving northward from what they can gather.

But one of our friends is smack in the middle of Palisades, and they think their house is gone. Unconfirmed, but unlikely it’s standing since fire fighters had to stop even going into that particular area.
