California hospice fraud - Nick Shirley

I'm only aware of three of his projects. The Minnesota day care fraud, alleged California election / voting fraud and this one. The first and third seem to have some legitimacy.

The lack of oversights by state and federal governments is truly appalling. Just so little concerned for where our tax money goes.

State records show 89 hospice companies at one Los Angeles office plaza. We went to look for ourselves.

There is fraud in every state. When will he hit up those red states.

There are certainly lots of opportunities and incentives for committing fraud, especially in the government healthcare space. But anyone who puts any stock into anything Nick Shirley does or says is a fool. He's no different than James O'Keefe.

Considering how easy it is to query and report on collected data, how is it possible that nearly a hundred hospice businesses are registered at one address and it doesn't throw up red flags?

It did throw up red flags, as the article you linked makes very clear, which the state has taken steps to address:

"CBS News wasn't the first to visit the building with questions. Federal records show regulators visited multiple suites in Merabi Plaza between 2021 and 2025. They found nearly 400 violations at 75 companies, those records show."

"On a recent visit to the building, CBS News encountered the building's owner, Kambiz Merabi. He said officials from Medicare came to his building two years ago specifically looking for hospice agencies, and he allowed them to conduct their inspections."

I don't know Shirley's exact relation to this story because no one should waste time paying attention to that piece of shit grifter and the article you linked says nothing about him. But if it's anything like the Minnesota fraud issues, Shirley is just bootstrapping onto existing reporting and allegations and using his particular brand of bullshit "journalism" to pretend like he's blowing the cover on some massive unknown story.

How big do you think medical buildings are in California? I don't know myself and I don't know how medical buildings and complexes handle addresses but it's easy to imagine high numbers of billings from a single address. What's the trigger number or event to start a closer investigation. Frankly, I don't know that but it can't be as simple as a certain number from a certain place.

Sorry, to clarify, red flags that are visible to people who can, and actually care to, do something about the problem... In less than 5 years.

Who is supposed to check things like this? Is a state audit department? If so they are probably understaffed, overworked and underpaid.

They are basically putting a big pot of money out there, letting people take from it, regardless of need and then, after the fraud has happened and there's basically no chance of getting the money back, they decide to do something.

For decades, California approved new licenses for hospices without investigating if there was a need.

The number of hospices in L.A. County soared from 109 in 2010 to 1,841 in 2021, a 1,589% increase. By comparison, the population in need of such care climbed only 40%, according to the audit.

Who says nobody has done anything about the problem? I have no idea how serious an issue this is, how long it’s going on, or what the state has or hasn’t done to address it, and neither do you. But I can promise you Nick Shirley isn't doing anything to help.
