Mexico - you're next. No need to call it North America anymore - distinguishing between US, Canada and Mexico. We'll just call it America and be done with it. South America, Central America and America - with Canada and Mexico being States #51 and #52
So if he were to start the discussion of anexing Mexico, how does he overcome the fear he sold of everyone crossing the border from Mexico being her to steal jobs, being drug cartels, being mentally ill or being criminals?

Wouldn't this be a much bigger and more accurate "open border" policy?

He would effectively be opening the boarder as they would all now be citizens.

Same with Canada to a lesser extent. He mentioned border issues with them also.

So, how would it actually impact the US if we were to anex Canada and Mexico?

I’ve never been in one despite having lived in Maine for years.
A friend at work lives in Toronto and he says they are good. A couple of years back he brought me some beans from there, but I don't really recall anything special about them.

I'll probably try them one day, but I bought my wife a really nice espresso machine for Christmas, so our coffee out had dropped off by 90%.

Make that quintuple espresso for the ride to work and (1) save money & time on stopping for coffee; PLUS, (2) get really wired!

If provinces became states then maybe more blue senators? Canada is generally more liberal than the USA.

The fact he's trying to say it comes as 1 State is hilarious.... How about Puerto Rico first?

Elk steaks? I don't know, wouldn't know. My wife's a vegetarian. Though I'm not 100% myself - I do eat a diet of about 90%-95% vegetarian. A little chicken and fish now and again. What will Canada bring to the table? The dinner table?
Maple syrup.

For the record most Canadians I talk to view Trump as a clown and wonder how stupid their neighbors are for re-electing him. Not many are eager to get in the clown car.
Wasn't one of the reasons (probably a minor one) that Canadians are angry with Trudeau is that he appeared to be too acquiescing to Trump when they met in person about a month ago? I'm not sure because I haven't followed it very closely, but I did read an article saying that some Canadians weren't very happy with his approach to Trump when they met. Even if true I doubt that's a major reason why he's leaving, although I'm sure that Trump and Musk will celebrate and claim that it's a sign that Canadians love Dear Leader, but the impression I get is that it's just the opposite - most Canadians can't stand the guy.

the main problems people have with Trudeau are inflation and immigration.

The U.S. voters may have cried and screamed about the price of things, but Canadian inflation (and most of the rest of the world) had more inflation than the US post pandemic and haven't really corrected at all. Milk has just come back down to the equivalent of $5 American a gallon, but that is because of the strong dollar. For Canadians being paid in Canadian dollars, they are still paying over $7 a gallon.

Post pandemic, there was a worker crisis here so the government launched a temporary foreign workers program that subsidized low level employees. Business took advantage of it and replaced Canadian workers when they quit with TFWs whom they could pay less than minimum wage as the federal government would pay the remainder of the minimum wage. Eventually no one was hiring Canadians. This also led to a housing crisis pretty much in every urban area as TFWs took over a lot of rentals, causing rent prices to spike. A lot of the TFWs were willing to live piled in like sardines too, which Canadians would not do, to pay the exorbitant rents.

People might not be happy about the trip to see Trump, but that was more complaining about the fire department knocking over the mailbox, after the house had burnt down. Trudeau has been on the way out for a while; he just finally opened the door to leave.

I don't think the conservatives are going to be any better, and I am not crazy about the immigrant backlash I am expecting, but this has been the road Canada has been on since basically the last election where Trudeau pulled of a miracle and got re-elected.

Jesus Christ. But none of us need to worry or be concerned about any of this, since Trump is not serious and just running his mouth, correct? I mean, he'll never actually invade or take over another part of the world without their consent, right? And threatening our neighbors - and we've had peaceful relations with Canada since, what, the War of 1812 ended? - is going to produce positive results, correct? Because that's what you Trumpers have been saying on this board since at least the election.

Trudeau begins a process to try to recover the political narrative around kneeling before Zod at MAL.
