Jesus Christ. But none of us need to worry or be concerned about any of this, since Trump is not serious and just running his mouth, correct? I mean, he'll never actually invade or take over another part of the world without their consent, right? And threatening our neighbors - and we've had peaceful relations with Canada since, what, the War of 1812 ended? - is going to produce positive results, correct? Because that's what you Trumpers have been saying on this board since at least the election.
I recently posed a question with respect to the odds of ttump using armed personnel to force territorial concessions (ie imperialism) on Canada and Denmark. It was pretty quickly shot down with “ZERO”.

It’s not zero. In fact, I’d wager it’s a 1:20 to 1:10 proposition. The man is obviously mentally addled. Revanchist in nature. Pathologically narcissistic. He knows, at a minimum in his subconscious, that he’s not a well man (near nil chance he hasn’t experienced health impacts from his obesity and highly processed diet, at 78). Quite confident he views territorial expansion as his legacy project - the man views land and buildings as the most important feature of society, alongside money.

And he now has another egomaniacal nutcase with a vastly greater fortune egging him on. Swell.

Even worse when people who don't have to answer to him bend the knee

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says while she doesn't want to assume anything after her meeting with U.S. president-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence over the weekend, Canada needs "to be prepared" that threatened tariffs are on the way.

Smith met with the president-elect at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday evening, and again at his golf club on Sunday morning. She was a guest of Canadian celebrity investor Kevin O'Leary.
...

Should a 25 per cent tariff be implemented on Canadian goods, Smith said there would need to be a Canadian response.

"Let's be frank about that ... if we put across the board 25 per cent tariffs in place on American goods, that makes the cost of everything for Canadians more expensive," Smith said.

"This is why tariff wars are so painful, is that you end up hurting yourself in trying to retaliate. And so we have to be very thoughtful about how we go about doing that."

The decision by the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, this week to resign as head of the Liberal party has set in motion a leadership race against the backdrop of a looming general election, which will be held amid political turmoil triggered by Donald Trump’s “America first” economic nationalism. It has also given Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, an opportunity to inject himself into yet another country’s political turmoil.

Since Trudeau’s resignation on Monday, Musk has posted repeatedly about Canadian politics on X – the platform formerly known as Twitter he bought in 2022 for $44bn. He has praised clips of Pierre Poilievre, the leader of Canada’s Conservative party, while relishing in Trudeau’s downfall and engaging with rightwing Canadian influencers.

Trump and Musk have been promoting the idea of Canada becoming part of the United States, something that every major Canadian party leader, including Poilievre, has rejected. Trudeau posted on Tuesday that there “isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell” of Trump’s proposal becoming reality

“Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so doesn’t matter what you say,” Musk tweeted in response in the middle of the night on Tuesday.

Musk’s posts are emblematic of his expanding attempts to influence global politics over the last year, during which he has formed alliances with a number of rightwing populist leaders, amplified far-right influencers and obsessively voiced conservative grievances. After spending more than $200m to back Trump’s re-election campaign, he has also positioned himself as a key figure in shaping US policy decisions and forced foreign leaders to take his provocations seriously.

Again, key Trump advisor and incoming quasi-governmental official and representative of the Trump Administration.

From the BBC:

In 2020, he faced scrutiny for picking a charity with ties to his family to manage a major government programme.
No, a liberal wouldn't do that.

"In a general election in 2019, his party was reduced to a minority status, meaning the Liberals had to rely on the support of other parties to stay in power."
So liberalism failing in Canada too?

"More recently, Trudeau faced headwinds from cost of living increases and inflation that have contributed to election upsets around the world."
So its not just Americans who don't like inflation.

There was also frustration in the country over what was seen as struggles to deliver on big promises - an agenda that was "overfilled, overstuffed", said Mr Wells - and his handling of issues like immigration.
Are we sure this isn't an article written about Biden?

Late last year, the Liberals backtracked on ambitious immigration targets over concerns the issue was mismanaged, significantly cutting back on the number of newcomers allowed in Canada.
Shocked I am

He also sometimes handed his opponents easy political wins, including when it came to light that he had worn black and brown face before holding office.
After more than nine years in power, he is among Canada's longest serving prime ministers, and there is a general sense of fatigue and frustration with his government.
Where is the outrage? So any canadian who voted for JT is a racist right?
