And will add: this is a huge loss for trump himself. I dare say this may be a bellwether for mid-terms in 2026.

At 8:36 AM EDT on April 28, 2025, Trump issued a plea to the "Great people of Canada," urging them to elect Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

His pitch? If Poilievre wins, Canada could become America’s "cherished 51st state," promising to "cut your taxes in half," boost military power "for free," and quadruple the size of Canadian businesses with "zero tariffs or taxes." Trump’s vision dismisses the Canada-U.S. border as an "artificially drawn line" and claims unification was "meant to be," while falsely asserting that America has been "subsidizing Canada with Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year." This isn’t just an endorsement—it’s a blatant call for Canada to hand over its sovereignty, resources, and identity to the United States, confirming fears that Poilievre is a MAGA asset ready to sell out his country.

But Poilievre LOST! The Trump bump didn't work... it backfired. A huge loss for Trump, who has yet to speak about the loss.
And not only did he lose the national election, but even his own district voted against him, so he lost his own seat. That's about as clear a rejection from the voters as you can get. And he can thank this humiliating defeat on one Donald J. Trump. With "friends" like Dear Leader, who needs enemies?

Trump's message likely cost PP even more voters than if he'd shut shut his big fat fucking orange mouth. People were outraged. This email went out to me and who knows how many else not long after Trump's post. It's from a Chocolate company run by Syrian refugees:

Dear friends,

Today is one of our family’s most favourite days as we celebrate something truly extraordinary that 10 years ago was simply an unreachable dream for us: The power of choice.

For us, Election Day carries a special and very deep meaning. Many of our family members, who proudly became Canadian citizens over the past few years, are voting for the first or second time. Democracy is one of the greatest and most precious gifts Canada has given us, and we hold it close to our hearts — especially after all the sacrifices made in the pursuit of freedom.

We cannot take this right for granted.

Today, we are standing firm for our sovereignty, unity, kindness and togetherness. We believe that peace is built when communities rally behind one another, especially in times of uncertainty and hope.

Canada will never be the 51st of anything. This country gave us a home and a reason to dream again. As our CEO mentioned to CTV National News this week, we should make Canada stronger than ever and "build on the capacity of amazing entrepreneurial spirit in our communities."

Today and every day, we celebrate the values that make this country strong and free.

Let’s protect them. Let’s honour them.

With love and gratitude,
The Peace by Chocolate Family

With the Canadian system another party member can give up their seat so PP can take it, but it's kind of the mark of a loser. Ideally you dump your leader if they can't even win their own seat.

It’s so fucking depressing that it took approximately 3 months for Canada to consider us a threat and an enemy rather than an ally.

Fuck you, Trump.
Didn't take that long even. It was less than a week of him assuring the world that he wasn't joking about annexation. The tariff bullshit didn't help either.

Elbows Up!
This is a great day for North America. A great day for Canada. It's also a great day for Greenland, Denmark, the EU, NATO, the U.N., etc.... all down the line for Democracies. With this vote the free world stands a chance of moving on both economically and in securing democratic freedoms from Russia and the Trump-led USA.
Watch now, as new alliances are formed, and old alliances renewed to battle trump's tariffs and battle Putin's Russia. Watch now as the rest of the World moves on and leaves Trump's maga Amurikkka to stand alone with only Russia, N. Korea and Iran - the Axis of Evil - as their only shit-hole partners in Authoritarianism.
Hungary, Turkey, Belorussia, and India want to join the shit-hole club!

We have the receipts that Trump made Canadian Liberals Great Again. Considering recent polling here in the United States, it might be getting under the skin of a large block of Trump Supporters as to who Trump is really making Great Again.

Looking as though the Liberal Party will come up one seat short of majority, with the Green Party and NDP carrying 8-9 seats. Presumably, Carney won’t need to heavily rely on Conservatives for governance. Alt, you certainly know substantially more; I can’t fathom the Cons are a good faith partner considering they chose someone like Poilievre as their leader.
Yeah, I think an NDP or Green party vote will be easy to swing.

what a turd
So he's basically bragging that people in Canada hate him so much that he destroyed the chances of a possible political ally (if he wasn't insanely attacking Canada) to become Prime Minister. If Trump was actually the chess player that so many of his admirers claim then he would have kept his mouth (and social media accounts) shut and allowed Poilievre to coast to victory and become PM. Instead he idiotically claims that he wants to annex Canada and make it the 51st state, raises tariffs, and not only wrecked the Conservative's chances in the election but also has transformed Canada from a longtime ally and friendly trading partner into an angry and alienated neighbor that is now looking elsewhere for alliances. All that matters to Trump are having people talking about him and focusing on him 24/7. Brilliant, Donald, just brilliant.
