Late UNC-Chapel Hill professor, journalist Chuck Stone honored with Pulitzer Prize

Stone was the first Black columnist at the Philadelphia Daily News.

He was a memorable figure around town...very much a Franklin Street and campus events presence. I never had a class with him but had many friends that did and spoke very highly of him.

Like all of the accolades he has received, a well-deserved honor.

I did not take a class with him at Carolina, but I was fortunate enough to hear him speak a few times and, on a couple of occasions, interact with him a small amount while I was in Chapel Hill. His work played a role for me in going from a fairly conservative freshman at Carolina to a much more complex thinker on political & social topics by graduation.

Nicely said...I did not mention that I did wait on him a few times and warmed up his coffee even more times. He was a frequent Hardback Cafe patron.
