It is not at all clear why this was covered up. She had previously announced her retirement at the end of this term, so she wasn’t running for office. Why not announce she resigned for health reasons?

She was at this event honoring her in November — GOP leadership was there. at least some of the participants must have known she was being propped up:

Weird story that once again illustrates that too many national leaders are far too old.

Retiring U.S. Rep. Kay Granger experiencing ‘dementia issues,’ per family

The Republican from Fort Worth has missed several months of votes. Her son told The Dallas Morning News she is living at Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth, but she is not in a memory care facility.

“…
In a statement from her office, Granger expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and said that since early September, her health issues have made frequent travel to Washington, D.C., “both difficult and unpredictable.”

“As many of my family, friends, and colleagues have known, I have been navigating some unforeseen health challenges over the past year,” the statement said.

Granger added she was able to return to Washington in November to hold meetings and oversee the closure of her office.

…Brandon said his mother is living at Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth, but she is not in a memory care facility, as some media reports have stated. He said that while the facility has a memory care community on the same property, Granger resides in the independent living facility.

On its website, Tradition Senior Living says it offers “resort-style living with ultra-inclusive services” on “approximately six acres along the Trinity River with miles of walking trails.” Brandon said his mother made the move because she wanted to be in a more active community of other older people. …”

“… Granger set a number of “firsts” over the years. She served as Fort Worth’s first female mayorand became the first Republican woman elected to the U.S. House from Texas in 1996.

Last year, she was the first Republican woman to take over as chair of the House Appropriations Committee, a powerful panel responsible for crafting federal spending bills.

It was widely assumed one factor in her decision to retire, aside from her age, was the fact that House GOP rules set a three-term limit for top committee positions.

She’d already served two terms as the senior Republican when Democrats controlled the House, so absent a waiver, she would have been forced to give up the gavel in the following session.

She stepped down as chair of the committee in March, after Congress wrapped up the previous round of spending bills. …”

“… Hardline conservatives often criticized Granger as a Republican in name only who was emblematic of a GOP establishment too eager to compromise with Democrats.

Those criticisms intensified after she was among the relatively small group of Republicans who blocked House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan’s bid to become speaker last year.

Months before she had announced her retirement, O’Shea launched a primary challenge against Granger, slamming her as “the matriarch of the opposition.” …”

And, as it turns out, the small local media outlet that broke the story about Granger is owned by aJ6 participant TX billionaire … I was trying to figure out why this story was getting a ton of play with Elon Musk, his Muskovites and among MAGA (lots of overlap but pretty clear that Muskovites and MAGA are different groups). Apparently because Granger is considered a traitorous RINO by MAGA.

So GOP leadership can freak out about Biden's age but this senator can "work" from a memory care unit.
