I'm going to keep this at a super high level. My personal experience, combined with all I've been able to read over the last few years, has led me to conclude the following. If anyone with medical expertise disagrees with any of this, I'll defer to you 100 times out of 100.
1. Covid is around and will be for the foreseeable future. For most of us, it's not a big deal. For some, though, it's an absolute catastrophe. And there's no way to know in advance which group you're in.
2. That absolute catastrophe CAN result in death, but is far more likely to result in a permanently (or semi-permanently) compromised immune system that leaves you more vulnerable to other diseases and causes autoimmune responses when your immune system is triggered in ways that are healthy for ordinary people.
3. Covid vaccines are helpful but at this point, most unvaccinated people who contract Covid will still be fine.
4. The anti-vax movement that was accelerated by Covid is FAR more threatening with respect to diseases other than Covid.
5. For example, measles is a completely different risk profile than Covid. Most of us are unaware of the risk measles poses because it's been so rare in recent years but it is vastly more threatening to long term health than is Covid.
