Trump to headline Kennedy Center fundraiser, with sponsorship as high as $2M

As president, Trump has overhauled the Kennedy Center's leadership.

Also reports are that Trump is considering using his expected settlement with CBS over 60 Minutes reporting to fund his desired renovation of the Kennedy Center.

Department of Education Eliminates Grant for PBS Children’s Shows

The termination of the federal grant program, called Ready To Learn, resulted in a loss of $23 million that would have gone to educational programs.

“… The abrupt cancellation of the grant program, called Ready To Learn, resulted in a loss of $23 million that would have gone to children’s educational shows and games. The first installment of the terminated grant was awarded by the first Trump administration in 2020. …”

“… The first group of Dutch-descended Afrikaners is scheduled to arrive in the United States imminently, and they will be receiving emergency support from the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, according to the memo, which was signed by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy and Office of Refugee Resettlement assistant secretary Andrew Gradison.

… Since the executive order, U.S. officials have been interviewing white South African applicants who claim to have faced racial discrimination in postapartheid South Africa. At the same time, refugees from the rest of the world, some of whom have been waiting for years to enter the country, have been left in limbo after Trump in January suspended the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, affecting an estimated 20,000 refugees set to travel to the U.S. — including 12,000 who already had flights booked. That ban is currently being challenged in court. …

The agency is preparing to resettle as many as 1,000 Afrikaners this year, the source said. …”

Just an endless garbage parade.

Second US Navy jet is lost at sea from Truman aircraft carrier

“… It is not entirely clear what happened yet, as the investigation is ongoing, but two of the people said there was some kind of arrestment failure as the jet was trying to land on the carrier and the pilot and weapons systems officer had to eject. They were recovered by a rescue helicopter and are both alive, but they suffered minor injuries, one of the people said.

The jet crashed into the sea and has not been recovered, two of the people familiar with the incident said.

Separately, the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group “took a shot” at the Truman on Tuesday, the four sources said, despite President Donald Trump announcing an apparent ceasefire with the group hours earlier. It is not clear whether the two incidents are related. …”

Thankfully it sounds like both service members are alright.

Google translate from Swedish:

Stockholm's urban planning office must not work for equality, diversity and inclusion. The US embassy demands this in a letter, with a contract that they expect the city to sign.

– It's completely bizarre, says urban planning councilor Jan Valeskog (S).

The City Planning Office is expected to sign and return the contract within ten business days.

– We absolutely do not intend to do that, it is the opposite of everything we stand for. They should withdraw these strange things, says Jan Valeskog.

It is the embassy that benefits from the city of Stockholm, not the other way around, he believes.

– If the US terminates its relationship with the city planning office, the embassy will have difficulty obtaining a building permit if they want to rebuild, for example. That's their headache, not ours, says Valeskog.

If it looks anything like Mar-a-Lago or his other personal properties I'm sure that it will be as gaudy and tasteless as hell.

Earth-shattering?

IMG_6865.webp

I'm sure that whatever it is it won't be as extraordinary or awesome as right-wing media and his cult will make it out to be, and if it's a peace deal or treaty of some sort it will likely fall apart very quickly or, when you read the fine print, won't be such a good deal for the USA. Knowing Trump, it might be an announcement that his administration believes that UFOs are real and that aliens have been visiting the Earth for centuries.

ETA: After reading a post later in this thread I wonder if the "earth shattering" announcement will be that he's renaming another body of water via executive order.

Persian Gulf to be the Arabian Gulf, per Trump fiat? A little wink and nod to his new business partners in the Middle East, I guess.
