I've posted some links to Ezra Klein's podcast recently. He has been doing some really good analysis on the election. Here is a link to one of his latest podcasts with a democratic pollster/data scientist, which goes through a lot of the ideas and theories we have discussed on this site - along with a lot of supporting data and charts. For those who do not have the patience to listen/watch podcasts, I am also linking the transcript which includes the relevant charts.

I’ll use this opportunity to plug another good podcast called Doomscroll.

For all the people talking about needing a left-wing Rogan (whatever that means), Citarella is a left-wing Lex Fridman. In a good way.

I just want to say that seeing Ezra Klein with a goatee completely transformed my view of him. The only picture I've ever seen is the one on his Spotify podcast, which is a clean shaven baby face.

Really interesting. I didn't get through the whole thing, but lots of great insights.

Times, they are a changing. It used to be that Republicans held the advantage on less engaged voters. That meant they did much better in non presidential elections than Democrats. That has flipped. Same for Old vs Young people. Republicans are really doing well with young people, especially young men, but Democrats are doing better with old people.

In the last few elections, white people have remained steady in support for Republicans vs Democrats. In the most recent election, Trump gained some support with blacks but absolutely hit it out of the park with flipping Hispanics.

They also thought that Harris made a mistake on her messaging. Engaged voters care more about things like democracy and institutions. Less engaged voters care more about economic issues. Harris started her campaign talking about economic issues but ended up focusing on Trump and the threat to Democracy. It showed in the results as her polling was initially very strong and she ended up getting her keister kicked.

They talked about why the Harris campaign would do that even though they were seeing the same polling and one theory was that's what big donors, who tend to be politically engaged, cared about.
