Disinformation and Misinformation Catch-All

I know examples are legion now, but HOLY FORKING SHORTBALLS is the MAGA disinformation machine operating at an extraordinarily high level. It’s almost like a chip has been implanted in half of Americans that lets the MAGA machine download false information instantaneously. This new Politico thing is a great example.

• Musk posts a lie about millions of dollars per year going from USAID to Politico to buy influence.
• Somehow, every single MAGA in the country immediately hears that lie and assumes it’s true.
• Shortly thereafter, true responsive information is disseminated that shows without a doubt the lie was a lie, and a really obvious and dumb one at that.
• But IT DOESN’T MATTER because the information downloaded into MAGA minds is somehow programmed to be incontrovertible, no matter how stupid it is or how much evidence exists to show it’s false.

I literally don’t have a clue how to contest this. Legacy media is not up to the challenge, but I’m not sure they could really do anything anyway. When people WANT to be this gullible, I don’t think there’s much we can do to resist it. We just have to hope the pain they’re about to experience is sufficient to drive them away from the liars in the next election.

This is my assumption, as well. Human history is replete with examples of easily debunked mass hysteria and groupthink; seldom does the rational actor convince the parishioners they're stuck in a delusional spin cycle. It's like we're in a variation of the Satanic Panic, except the reach of mis/dis is ... 10x? 100x? and not only does the technology amplify the message, but the message is amplified every.single.day. by the government.
