“… All signs point to this summer being the worst for teen employment since 1948, when the federal government started tracking the data, as rising inflation and higher fuel prices squeeze the small businesses and restaurants that typically hire them, says Andy Challenger, who tracks workplace trends for Challenger, Gray & Christmas, an outplacement firm.

One key reason this season is expected to be particularly tough: Employers in the entertainment and leisure sector plan to fill 70% fewer roles than last year. The resorts, hotels, amusement parks and other activity centers in that category are known for giving jobs to young workers.

“The collapse in entertainment and leisure hiring announcements is one of the clearest signals we have,” Challenger said. “That is exactly the kind of work teens depend on.”…”

I do not believe those job numbers at all. Another piece was recently published outlining the difficulty high schoolers and college students are having getting summer employment because recreation and hospitality is drying up.

After he fired the woman responsible for putting out the monthly jobs created report because her number wasn’t what he wanted to hear, I don’t believe any number his administration puts out.
