I got an email today from a guy who said he went to high school with my brother. I will share his first name, which is Kurosh. He and a fellow named Ali went to Patterson High School with my late brother Doug and graduated in 1974. I met them several times, and even went on a trip to Rhode Island with them. Over the years I would ask my brother if he had ever heard from them and he said no, that he presumed they were dead because their fathers were high in the Shah's government before the Revolution. So this text comes out of the blue, asking if I remember him, and he would like to speak by phone. I responded that I did remember him, and said we could speak. I then googled, and found him, and that he lives in Malibu, California, but it might be dated. He sent the following to me.
I am so glad that you rememberd me.
I am looking forward to talk to you asap.
You are about 8 hours *behind* from Iran's time.
The only two ways we can talk is Google Meet or Whatsapp.

10am to 10pm Iran's time which you have to consider the time difference I said above.

So then I started thinking could this be sinister. As far as finding me, probably not hard. If he googled my brother, he likely found a column I wrote on him when he died that had my email address. But the idea of sending emails to and from Iran gives me some pause, and why could we simply not talk by phone, why would we need to do Google Meet or Whatsapp?
The fact that he says he is in Iran but I found a Kurosh who graduated Patterson living in Malibu (at some time) also gives me pause. Why would he go back after being "Westernized?" Am I right to be concerned, or just paranoid?
