“… Joe Kent, Trump’s nominee to be director of the National Counterterrorism Center … was among a group of officials who participated in a chat on messaging app Signal to plan an attack on Houthi militants in Yemen.

… During the planning phase, Kent, a former Special Forces soldier, chimed in at one point in the chat to say: “There is nothing time sensitive driving the timeline. We’ll have the exact same options in a month.”

… U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) excoriated Kent.

The recklessness and incompetence of how Trump’s so-called ‘best and brightest’ handled national security information is bad enough when they’re channeling the offhanded attitude of tweeners texting about their plans for spring break,” Wyden said in a statement.

But the fact they included Joe Kent in this buffoonish behavior only magnifies their dangerous sloppiness and total disregard for intelligence since he hasn’t even been confirmed by the Senate.” …”

No other NATO or (formerly) allied country will want to share sensitive or classified intelligence with us. I wouldn't.

IMO, as long as this administration is in power the "Trans-Atlantic Alliance" is dead. We're treating Canada and our historic European allies as enemies and our historic enemies - Russia foremost among them - as valued friends. And it will stay that way as long as Trump 2.0 is in power. European nations are both right and wise to seriously re-evaluate their relationship with us. They're going to turn us into a pariah state before they're through, and to be frank I'm not at all sure that isn't the goal.
Agree. I’ve said for months, their goal is a massive degradation of the US civil and financial infrastructure. During crisis, the rich get far, far richer, and power further concentrates.

Joe Kent:
Kent also has had documented contacts with white supremacists:

  • During the 2022 campaign, he sat for an interview with Greyson Arnold, a white nationalist who has repeatedly praised Nazis. Kent’s campaign then claimed he was not familiar with Arnold.
  • Kent did a podcast with well-known white supremacist Nick Fuentes. According to RawStory.com: “They mused on the ‘ideal ratio’ of non-white or non-Christian people in the United States.”
  • According to the Associated Press, Kent’s campaign paid $11,000 to a worker who has been identified by law enforcement as a member of the Proud Boys. The group has been categorized by the FBI as an extremist organization with ties to white nationalism.

Pretending Trump is an adult?
It’s not that Trump is incapable of being POTUS today.

He was incapable of being POTUS in November 2016. Fortunately, in November 2016, and from then through 1/20/2021, there were still competent, serious people in that Administration.

Today, this President’s Administration is populated with Tulsi Gabbards, “Big Ballz,” Marco Rubios (remember, he’s the serious, competent one), Pete Hegseths, Kennedy Lite, etc.

There is no sane person such as Mike Pompeo or Mike Pence.

We’re in a situation in which we’d be happy with a Mike Pompeo as CIA Director or SecState or Mike Pence as VPOTUS.

Officials say texts sent by Waltz, Ratcliffe in Signal chat may have damaged US’ ongoing ability to gather intel on Houthis

“…
In one of the messages, Ratcliffe told other Cabinet members who were discussing whether to delay the strikes that the CIA was in the act of mobilizing assets to collect intelligence on the group, but that a delay might offer them the opportunity to “identify better starting points for coverage on Houthi leadership.”

That text, according to the current and former officials, exposed the mere fact that the US is gathering intelligence on them — bad in and of itself — but also hinted at how the agency is doing it. The language about “starting points,” these people said, suggests clearly that the CIA is using technical means like overhead surveillance to spy on their leadership. That could allow the Houthis to change their practices to better protect themselves.

Then, in a later message, Waltz offered an extremely specific after-action report of the strikes, telling the thread that the military had “positive ID” of a particular senior Houthi leader “walking into his girlfriend’s building” — offering the Houthis a clear opportunity to see who the US was surveilling and potentially figure out how, thus enabling them to avoid that surveillance in the future, the sources said. …”
