When did he start working there? That name sounds familiar. I used to play 3 cushion billiards with Howard Henry when he was director, was roommates for a while with Jim Ridout when he ran the bowling alley and poolroom in the 70s and also knew Nancy Bolish.
Archie was Howards Asst director for like ever For sure there in the late 60s.Archie grew up with Jim Hunt-although he was not a fan.
Howard was like second father to me-I hung out with a couple of his sons. Did you know Howard was a Full Bird colonel? Had an office in the Pentagon-Air Force Reserves

No. Can't say I knew him that well. Shared a mutual interest in a game very few played and he was willing to give me some pointers. I did like him a lot, though.

Thanks for posting that. I hadn’t seen it before (though I’ve seen some of the individual videos). That’s a lot of the music I was listening to about 30 years ago. Amazingly, I have every Small album and EP that was released, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard that Small song. It’s obviously old school Small because the video has Eric Bachmann playing with the band.

That was kind of my personal heyday (check out Tom Maxwell's book -- you probably have already) of tending bar and booking bands -- that doc pretty well proves that there was no "Chapel Hill Sound" other than perhaps a kitchen Hobart washer kicking into gear -- or better yet, as the now departed Marc Sloop so neatly put it when asked by a reporter about such a thing, he simply popped the top on a can of Natty Bo in the fellow's face.

Not surprised you did not know Archie-even if you were at the Student Union a lot
Archie was the "behind the scenes " guy Basically an introvert He had that now defunct educated WM North Carolina voice pattern. I do remember Archie had -way back in like 1970- a bumper sticker that said
End isms
When he retired he did tons of volunteer "behind the scenes" work at his Episcopal Church-Chapel of the Cross

Here is a classic set in time pretty soon after the murder of Internationalist Bookstore owner Bob Sheldon.
