Gavin Newsom - time for a new thread

NPR had a thing on Looksmaxxing by incels where they are hitting themselves in the face with hammers to alter their features to “look” better. One of the big influencers said he’d vote for Newsome over Vance because the Governor is a “Chad” and VP Vance is a “subhuman”!?!

Newsom has been very open about the housing supply issues in CA. He seems to want to address it, but he's only one person, not a king and can't wave a wand to remove all of the (environmental/bureaucratic) red tape.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but this is the case in so many suburban areas. Why people are so insistent on sitting in traffic just to live in a cultural wasteland is beyond me. Nothing is walkable and a big night out in Wake Forest is going to dinner in a Heritage strip mall.
Because those places are close to the urban areas where good jobs and awesome entertainment options are but are typically more affordable than the good parts of real cities and are built with as many perks of life as can be placed in them (parks, nice stores, etc).

Everyone would love to live in a walkable urban center, but the cost is largely prohibitive and a lot of folks would love to live out in a more semi-rural area with land but don't want a 90+ minute commute each way. A lot of the suburbs try to find the balance by being somewhat close to the cities where the real action is while also providing as much single-family housing as possible packed into the available land.

Suburbs are a compromise between location near cities, affordability, and single family homes with a tiny bit of land. A lot of folks don't like them (me, among that group), but that's why they exist in the form they do.

This is kind of indicative of one of the divides nowadays, isn't it? One group would have an executive that blows right past those pesky laws and separations of power. And when the courts predictably say "no," that group blames the courts. The other group would have an executive that works within the existing structure of government. And when that is predictably slower and frustrating, the first group blames the executive.

This is funny if not sad. But the fact of the matter is, this is exactly the type of stuff some people vote for. It's like people who don't really follow football, but they'll watch the Super Bowl and pull for Team A because they "like the color of their uniforms" better than Team B. Some people don't vote often - only in presidential elections - and they are totally clueless about the candidates. And when they do vote, they vote "Party" or they pick a name which doesn't seem wonky. (Absolutely amazing a guy named Barack Hussein Obama won.) Or they choose the candidate who is "better looking". I can see where Gavin has that issue in spades over JD.
