The age old: poor person always needing somebody they can look down on to make themselves feel better about their own plight.

Also: misogyny. Especially the bit about the mother - instead of telling her son to get the laundry - she fusses at the pregnant (and darker complexion) wife. She’s perfectly fine with remaining in that misogynistic life, male dominated. Sad. Ignorant.
