“I think the reasoning of Tyler Hansbrough co-instructing is just to give a different and unique perspective into the sports communication industry from an athlete perspective,” Davis said. “Which I think will be really cool for the students to just learn from that angle.”

Freeman said students are going to do everything in the class this semester, from crisis communication in sports to international sports relations. He also said the class will have a list of professional guest speakers in addition to Hansbrough.

“One of the coolest things is we’re gonna have a very, very impressive list of guest speakers — that I won’t spoil who they are — but it’s gonna be pretty sweet,” Freeman said.

Davis said the combination of years of teaching experience from Freeman and the athletic and broadcasting experience of Hansbrough will make the class exciting for students. "

As a Poli Sci major it was not unusual to have a former Congressional staffer coteach a course or run a seminar-not with a PhD-but intense experience Obviously this happens in Journalism-perhaps elsewhere?
Cool stuff

I took a class in divinity school at Wake Forest called Christianity and Public Policy. It was co-taught by Melissa Rogers who led the White House office of Faith Based Neighborhood Partnerships under both Obama and Biden.

Hansbrough was a freshman 20 years ago. I 100% guarantee to you that a student in the class will come up to him at one point during the semester and say, "sir, I don't know how to say this, but my mom went to carolina with you and, well, I think you may be my father."

Holy smokes, I cannot even imagine what a cool experience that must be for those students. I’m so jealous! If I were forced to pick my absolute all-time favorite Carolina basketball player since I’ve been a fan, it would be really, really difficult for me not to have him as number one.

Oh my goodness. You’re right. Just hit me that the freshman class at UNC would’ve been like two years old when Tyler last played for us.

Yea
My son overlapped some with Tyler at UNC The word was he had a girlfriend-because he was expected to have a girlfriend. He was about 99% basketball-unlike some Carolina players who have been "sheet spreaders"
