And because they (white, European males) made up, what, 90%+ of the population of the "country" from its founding and on for centuries? White European guys were basically the only ones here to do anything. They were the only ones to run businesses, build infrastructure, kill each other, embezzle money, beat their wives etc.

As I mentioned above, white, European males made up almost the entire population of the "US" for as long as it has existed in any form. They did a lot of good and a lot of bad because there was basically nobody else to do either.

It's pretty clear he's intentionally saying stupid things to hijack the thread, as he does not like there being a thread dedicated to gay pride... he needs it to be about him instead.

I think we all recognize that women had a much different role in society back then and still today. I'm not saying it's right or wrong; it just was.

So, as I specifically mentioned, white European men made up 90% + of the people responsible for the birth/design of the US. Native Americans were not an active part of the birth/building of the country. Even today, many choose to remain "separate" from the US.

Edit: So, if we are recognizing groups, which I don't support, that would seem to be a good one, as Ram mentioned, but since white European males are the viewed as oppressors and not the oppressed, it's not socially acceptable to recognize their contributions.

The term Gay Pride stretches back to before most of us were born (and was called Gay Pride for specific reasons that made sense at the time). This is like arguing over “NAACP” because the “C” stands for an outdated term we no longer use.

Once I complained to my Momma that while there was a Mothers and a Fathers Day that there was no Kids Day.

She said, "Shoosh, everyday is Kids Day."

And I knew that she was correct and shut up about it.
 
I had a cousin that was more or less an orphan so he lived with Gramma and Gramps
Every Wednesday was Chuckie day
Yea we were jealous- you know until we thought more about his situation
