Old idea, but couldn’t find a suitable thread, so started a new one. Perhaps this could go under “GOP slouches into crazy…” ???
Mods: please move as necessary, but this topic may warrant a thread of it’s own.

The evangelical, hard right Christian Nationalists are nothing more than the American version of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Not a dimes worth of difference between the two.
So this is why JD Vance grew a beard and keeps harping on keeping women barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. JD wants to be the first American Ayatollah.

This is a classic example of the "Jaguars eating faces party" tweet.

"I thought the Taliban was just about forcing other people to follow strict religious doctrine, not me!"

Luckily Trump isn’t really into the whole Christian Taliban thing - unless that somehow benefits him personally.

His goals are more in line with a corrupt dictator - punishing perceived enemies, enriching himself, admiration from his followers, and general power.

Plenty of the people using him are. It's not like he's going to curb them, either, as long as they provide him with the trappings of power, whether real or not.

Trump doesn’t want to be the Ayatollah… that’s JD’s job.
Trump wants to be Putin or Kim Jong Un.
Trump wants to be “Put-Un”

A proper leader of the American Taliban wouldn’t hold a Bible upside down in a photo Op. That’s just not cricket mate.

Trump likely doesn’t give a rat’s ass whether or not Project 2025 is enacted.

Trump wants to be POTUS and to stay out of jail.

If elected, he’ll be the belligerent schmuck he’s always been.

What’s different in 2024 versus 2016 is that in the earlier year, a great many Republicans likely thought Trump was competent and that he wanted to cut government.

In 2024, they know he’s incompetent and doesn’t care about governing; so, they’ve prepped Project 2025. They’re prepared to win and to enact the wet dreams of Newt Gingrich, Dick Armey, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Tom DeLay, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, and a host of right-wingers, alive and dead.

In 2024, the right-wing “conservatives” have realized THEY can control a Trump Administration; they are deadset on doing so.

Useful puppet.
Just like the Taliban. They follow the Ayatollah. They don’t follow the King, or the President, or the Prime Minister… they follow the Ayatollah.
Christian Nationalists - more aptly called The American Taliban - will give lip service to trump, but will follow Project 2025 leader. This is where JD Vance comes in.

My wife and I have been saying this for a while.

It's sad that people who look down on the Taliban are supportive and willing to vote in the American Christian Nationalist version.

But many of the people backing him are.

For me separation of church and state is a top 3 issue, but I don't hear nearly enough discussion of how trump is being used to erode these protections.

Project 2025 should be required reading, so that people understand they are voting against their personal freedoms.

I don't think that's a useful comparison.

It effectively neutralizes any kind of deep or nuanced understanding of both the Taliban and the American evangelicalism.

I work with Afghan refugees often, and closely, and the Taliban has issues and dynamics that are entirely unique to itself.

Deportation of the church seems a little extreme, but I get the inclination given all your family has endured. 😁

Damn, I hate spell check and keyboard accuracy on this phone. 🤪

On second thought maybe it was a Freudian slip.

I thought you might be on to something. I'd have settled with removing tax exemption for any religious organization of any stripe for any political activity, either en masse or individual unit and removing any law whose value is in support of religious or philosophical principle whose actual existence and value is unproved and unprovable.

Oh, make praying and public worship services a public nuisance citation. I don't care what you believe or who you pray to, I am not interested in hearing about it in the slightest.

I do agree. I also believe Jesus agrees, he did say to pray alone and not bring attention to your prayers.
