Glenn Beck said this am that FEMA gave 1.4 billion to illegals. No idea where he got this information, and I’m not saying it’s true.

If (big if) this is true it does suck. That can build 3500 400,000 homes Maybe just a drop in the bucket, but it’s been said on this board that the max you’ll get is 80,000 from fema. That’s not going to build a house, and it just sucks to think of those who will not be made whole, while people who aren’t citizens get benefits.
Why were you listening to Glenn Beck this morning? Sure, there's some snark in there, but also an honest question too.

I know, and I know you know, that Glenn Beck is an amoral grifter with a 20+ year history of easily disprovable lies and deranged crackpot conspiracy theories which after decades have never even sniffed a kernel of basis in fact.

You know all this already. I'm not telling you something you don't already know. So again, why were you listening to Glenn Beck this morning?

[EDIT]: I also want to add the more general point that perhaps the single most beneficial thing we can collectively do for our country is the complete elimination of "BIG, IF TRUE!!!!!!" for our national discourse. If you're every tempted to post or repost some version of "Big, if true!", don't, just don't. You will not be part of the solution, you'll be making yourself part of the problem.

Glenn beck lol.

The same Glenn Beck who said Obama was using FEMA money to build concentration camps for political opponents
Yeah I know he’s full of shit. But I was wondering if the number/story is made up from whole cloth. Or is he twisting a fact to fit his narrative.

It isn't true and there's no reason to think it's true. Here is an article discussing this claim and FEMA's response:

Stop falling for the constant right-wing propaganda that blames illegal immigration for every problem known to man. There's no excuse to keep believing this stuff. You are being manipulated and misled and you should be offended by that.

I usually listen to it for the lolz to be honest. And a bit of nostalgia. Reminds me of a much easier time in my life, but gave up buying what he’s selling about 15 years ago.
But he’s so specific with the nUmber I’m wondering what the nugget of truth is. My assumption is this is a twisted fact.

Here’s what you need to know about the FEMA issue — Department of Homeland Security Announces $300 Million in Direct Funding to Communities Receiving Migrants and $340 Million for a New Competitive Awards Process

In short, (1) Congress specifically authorized the funding for communities struggling with housing of migrants pending asylum or deportation hearings, (2) far more funding would be available for both communities and disaster victims if Congress would pass the bipartisan border bill, and (3) the migrant housing funds will have no long term impact on the funds available to Helene victims because, except when Trump was in office and he denied requested funds to NC and other states with Dem governors, the federal government ALWAYS makes sure disaster response needs are fully funded.

So, in other words, Beck is lying like the liar he’s always been.

From the Washington Post:

Inside a helicopter bringing life-saving relief to North Carolina’s storm-ravaged counties

National Guard and civilian aircraft now crisscross the skies of North Carolina, bringing supplies to places where roads and bridges were destroyed by Helene and people are trapped.

The drone of helicopters has become routine across western North Carolina in the wake of Helene. National Guard and civilian aircraft now crisscross the skies of a region where roads and bridges have been destroyed and people are trapped. The helicopters are delivering supplies, picking up people who need rescuing, dropping off firefighters and search-and-rescue crews and radioing for assistance for others who can be more easily accessed from the ground.

Private planes from across the southeast United States have also swarmed the area, flying donated supplies to small airports in the hills. The airspace has gotten so crowded that one Army pilot commented over the radio that it was busier than flying into Newark International Airport.
The morning’s clouds began lifting around 10 a.m., and helicopters started taking off from a National Guard airfield in Salisbury, N.C., about an hour north of Charlotte, to ferry food and water to mountains that have been difficult or impossible to access by vehicle.

This is addressed higher up on the page your made this post.

“… Replying to the rumor that funding for FEMA disaster response had been "diverted to support international efforts or border related issues," the government agency said on its specially dedicated fact check page:

"This is false.

No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA's disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts.

Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts." …”

Lost and not really mentioned at all in all of this is the fact that the FEMA funds, and any of the other funds that are received from the state or other agencies, are about as close to forms of socialism that the us comes to, and it is going to help out the very people who are wholly against this idea when it pours from their orange leader’s mouth. Funny that it’s not so bad when it’s them receiving the needed help.

There was an article earlier this week that Trump would look to see how an area voted before he would allocate FEMA money to them. He wanted to disallow funds in California for Forest Fires. His staff showed him that a lot of the money would go to Orange County, which is Republican.

So, had Safelite come repair my windshield (small starburst) this morning due to gravel that spun up and hit us while we were going to Seven Devils on Wednesday. Guy was super nice and professional, and I was telling him how we got the starburst by traveling on patched HWY 105. He proceeds to ask me how we got up there because he heard law enforcement was arresting anyone who tried to bring supplies in.

I explained not only was that not the case, but there were tons of private and commercial vehicles hauling in supplies to that area while we were there, National Guard vehicles in several locations and most stuff on 321 in Boone open now, albeit limited hours etc. (and some mobile stuff in front of the box store). I told him about the many free meals stations etc.

He says well that is probably because Samaratin's Purse is there. He then says that he was told that people were getting arrested trying to bring supplies in north of Boone and that FEMA and the National Guard are forcing private aircraft to turn around and seizing the materials they bring in "supposedly" to protect rescuers on the ground and control the kinds of supplies permitted in. He claimed that the government was preventing thousands of isolated people from being saved by all these patriots and people are getting hot about it. Then asked how I got through Blowing Rock, he heard it had been destroyed.

I told him we didn't drive through downtown, we went 321 around the outside of town, but it appeared to still be intact. They did have a boil water order that just ended. He said he was surprised, but maybe I just didn't see the destruction he assured me had happened.

You think it is the role of government to make people "whole" after a natural disaster? What's the point of insurance or private property at all then? I can't think of a single more socialist idea than the federal government being a blank check backstop for bad things happening.

What occurred is awful and we as a society should do all that we can, but I think the idea that government is the ultimate responsible party for any calamity is kind of bonkers.

All of this conspiracy is being spread by "adults". We really need to re-evaluate how much respect is given to our elders in this country.

These people are looney tunes.
You just insulted Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd. Not to mention the other characters in those great cartoons.

"I've been on foodstamps and welfare, did anyone help me out? No."
