How would this backfire? The election results are probably going to come down to turnout. Will the misinfo spur a few "undecideds" or potential non-voters off the couch?

I'm not sure it boosts the positive energy around Kamala, but could it boost anti-Kamala energy for people who've lost interest in Trump but are now angry at "the government"?
Because ambulance chasing turns off moderate people

Seems like potentially misinformation, but I’ve seen tons of right wingers on Facebook who are BIG MAD that the N.C. hurricane victims are only receiving $750 while our administration gives illegal immigrants $9,000.

I feel like I have seen the $750 number reported from valid sources this week. But which illegal immigrants are they referring to who supposedly received $9,000 from the US?

My BS meter is going off…
Your BS meter has been broken since 2016. You no longer have the ability to discern between fact and fiction because you're part of the cult.

FEMA is providing immediate $750 payments as get you through the immediate moment support while processing applications for more substantial support.

“This is a type of assistance that you may be approved for soon after you apply, called Serious Needs Assistance. It is an upfront, flexible payment to help cover essential items like food, water, baby formula, breastfeeding supplies, medication and other emergency supplies. There are other forms of assistance that you may qualify for to receive and Serious Needs Assistance is an initial payment you may receive while FEMA assesses your eligibility for additional funds. As your application continues to be reviewed, you may still receive additional forms of assistance for other needs such as support for temporary housing, personal property and home repair costs. If you have questions about your disaster assistance application and what you qualify for, contact us at 1-800-621-3362 to speak with a FEMA representative in your language.”

Nah, the conspiracy idiots were always going to vote for Trump.
I agree. Anyone who says something like, "I was going to vote for Harris, but when I saw she couldn't handle a hurricane relief effort, I just couldn't," is a bald-face liar. I put them into the same basket of deplorables as those who said, "I voted for Obama, once." It makes me laugh even harder when one of these wingnuts gets all offended when I laugh at their transparently false "bo-siding."

I don’t think it would even be possible to count the number of things Trump has done and said that would be categorically disqualifying at any other time and for any other candidate in our nation’s history. Hell, the things this week alone would take up a legal pad.

“… According to former President Donald Trump, the federal government is intentionally withholding aidto Republican disaster victims. Far-right extremist groups warn on social media that officials plan to bulldoze affected communities and seize the land from residents. A tale straight from science fiction asserts that Washington used weather control technology to steer Helene toward Republican voters in order to tilt the presidential election toward Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

… Many of the conspiracy theories focus on hard-hit North Carolina, a state key to winning the White House. Rumors circulated that FEMA was raiding storm donations and withholding body bags, forcing local hospitals to stack the bodies of victims. One claim suggested federal authorities would condemn the entire town of Chimney Rock and prohibit resettlement in order to commandeer a valuable lithium mine nearby.

Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, X and SpaceX, posted that private relief flights to North Carolina were being blocked by the Federal Aviation Administration, a claim dismissed as false by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Despite the tradition of Democrats and Republicans putting aside politics for disaster response, many conspiracy theories suggest Democrats such as President Joe Biden or North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper are intentionally withholding aid from Republicans. Trump has pushed the claim, as has North Carolina’s lieutenant governor, Mark Robinson, the embattled GOP nominee for governor.

“They’re being treated very badly in the Republican areas,” Trump told Fox News, ignoring reports and photo and video evidence of recovery efforts underway throughout the region. “They’re not getting water, they’re not getting anything.” …”

“…
State-run media and disinformation campaigns run by China and Russia have amplified false and misleading claims about the response to the storm. Both countries have used social media and state news stories to criticize responses to past U.S. natural disasters, part of a larger effort to stoke division and distrust among Americans.

State and local officials from both parties have condemned the conspiracy theories as rumors, saying the focus should be on recovery, not political division and hearsay. Responding to the hoaxes is taking up time that should go toward assisting victims, said North Carolina state Sen. Kevin Corbin, a Republican who urged his constituents not to give into hoaxes. …”

“… After Robinson, the GOP candidate for North Carolina governor, posted that state officials had not prepared for the storm, a spokesman for the governor accused Robinson of mounting “an online disinformation campaign.”

North Carolina officials say the response to Helene is the largest in state history, including thousands of members of the National Guard and other recovery workers, millions of meals, dozens of aircraft and more than 1,000 chainsaws. …”

I don't think it will really change the way people in NC vote. Those dumb enough to believe the conspiracy crap were going to vote for Trump anyway. If anything, maybe those directly affected by the disaster that might have voted for Trump could change their minds after receiving help from the government.

First three responses:

They've always told lies, but it's just bold and baldfaced lies now. They don't care that CNN or some other media source might fact-check them and find that their claims are all a bunch of bullshit. They know that their base will eat this crap up and believe it, because it's what they want to believe. It seems clear that they are hoping to drive up turnout in NC among their base in rural and small-town areas as much as possible (and probably in GA and FL too). And as I posted earlier it's simply disgusting - there are lots of good people with FEMA, the National Guard, and NC state agencies who are working their butts off to help the people of western NC - and yet from Trump on down to your local MAGAt conspiracy theorists (aka a bunch of Dale Gribbles) they are being slandered as cold and heartless, thieves who are literally stealing needed supplies from Real Americans suffering in rural areas, greedy Deep State government elitists who are going to buy up Chimney Rock and all of the other devastated land in western NC and build lithium mines to promote Kamala's efforts to get everyone to switch to electric cars and pickups (I saw that one posted several times on Facebook just yesterday). Shit like this has got to stop, one way or another. It's poisoning people's minds.

I thought all of these folks were anti-socialist, anti-welfare handout, pull yourself up by your bootstraps types? So why are they now complaining about not getting enough money? As usual with Trumpers, they don't care about the suffering of others until it finally happens to them - then they want that government relief as fast as they can get it, and as much as possible.

Spoken by a man who, to start his campaign rally in NC yesterday (well removed from the areas damaged by the flooding) didn't start off mentioning the people suffering in the mountains, but instead bragged that if elected he would change the name of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg. He's definitely got his priorities straight, people! I've always despised Trump, but seeing what he and other Trumpers are doing here just causes me to loathe him and his MAGA movement even more. They really are evil, and I'd love to hear some of his defenders explain or justify what they're doing here. Just blatant lies that could easily hamper assistance and rescue efforts and are being spread by people who are living in comfort while these rescue workers are putting in very long hours trying their best to help.
