I mean there is a northern area...I camp and hike there every year - well between there and western Caldwell. Freedom High School's zone goes all the way up there. Of course, I have always wondered how long it takes those folks to get to school. Sure it's about 20 kids total, but still... (once my HS golf team got stuck behind a school bus up there. - felt that was some really bad luck). Just wondered how the demarcation line went but you did help with your Valdese-west comment, so thank you.

But yes, there are absolutely top notch mountains and hikes in the northern part Burke County. But almost no one lives there aside from the small Jonas Ridge community at the northern edge.

Oh that makes sense. It was just about 30 years ago we got behind that bus so I just assumed they went to Freedom (just 2 Burke County high schools back then). We were on our way to Boone. I dont know why we went that way instead of 321. My coach was probably drunk.

should just be 2 burke county high schools now, but that’s a different discussion. i’m from valdese and still have family in the area, They’ve mostly gotten power back and flooding wasn’t bad.

Helene was the MOST predictable hurricane I've seen in a decade. The Gulf is GD bath water. OF COURSE, Helene was going to become a CAT4 or worse. We knew the front and trough were going to grab Helen by the tropical p***** and drag it to the NC mountains. The NHS knew this days ago. FEMA HAD to know and should have been in place.
