I'm sorry. That sounds WEAK.

Harris, Walz, Biden, Dems better get their collective *****s out to western NC and start governing and handing out sh*t. Trump and MAGA are leveraging the crap out of disaster.

Start photo-opping now.

Helene was the MOST predictable hurricane I've seen in a decade. The Gulf is GD bath water. OF COURSE, Helene was going to become a CAT4 or worse. We knew the front and trough were going to grab Helen by the tropical p***** and drag it to the NC mountains. The NHS knew this days ago. FEMA HAD to know and should have been in place.

This is why milquetoast Dems LOSE elections.

I'm sick and tired of Trump the insane autocrat. He needs to go away. Far, far away. Overseas. Mongolia has no extradition.

Just how do you “pre-place” resources in river/creek valleys before 10”-to-36” of rain fall? How do those resources survive or be operational?

The fuck are you talking about? Jesus you are asking for fucking photo ops??

How about real fucking work. That's what matters. Today doesnt matter for politics. November does. MAGA is not leveraging shit.
Dude. You do both. You have folks in place. Mets, FEMA, weather geeks saw this disaster coming over a week ago. Of COURSE you do the f*cking work.

You place resources on higher ground in critical areas that can be accessed. You prepare for portability and rescue. FEMA and the US Gov. had a week to prepare.

TBF, I'm commenting on how the votes in the middle and on the fence will see it.

OK you know I like you and respect you. But you are wrong on this - you are feeding right into MAGA talking points.

They saw flooding coming to the mountains. This is not SE Texas where you can easily do a mass evacuation of coastal areas. Do you think they should have ordered a mass evacuation of the entirety of western NC for a "well maybe it rains the most ever?" Forecasts were for 12 inches of rain - including the stalled front. That rapidly changed about 48 hours before landfall. And newsflash: even if you say it was going to happen, those folks werent evacuating. Maybe like around Biltmore Village (where flooding is regular) but in the other areas? LOL hell no. And so you have 1 week where the hurricane may come and cause some flash flooding - you warn people (they were warned) and they stock up. But nothing was in the cards to indicate this level of flooding. It set all time records. That's not in the books. There was planning, but not for the extreme level that occurred.

In addition, the hurricane was forecast to go up I-75 over Atlanta and then up near and west of Knoxville. It stayed east over the edge of SC. That changed things for NC DRASTICALLY. So let's not get all Miss Cleo on NHC forecasts because that shit changes - and it did even when landfall was happening.

"Hey look at all that water and food up the mountain that cant get to us because there are no roads!"

A week? Just LMAO. Hurricanes have never changed intensity or direction over a 5 day stretch at all. 2 days before landfall they still said it may be a Cat 1 or 2 when it hits.

The path forecast approaching landfall...and it was still off by 90 miles at landfall - move the rain 90 miles west and it's mainly over the larger, much wider tennessee river valley

I’m so irritated by this. Look, I follow weather models for fun. My parents and sister live In Avery county. Sure, we all thought this would be a lot of rain… but weather modeling is often overdone. NO ONE was expecting for this storm to OBLITERATE the mountains.

Then there were days when there was no communication coming out of the area. I knew a little about how bad it was, because I was searching Facebook and other social media to find out information about my family, but it took time for the real impact to be revealed. Response also takes time. You can’t just call up the national guard and have them mobilize in a half an hour. The response on the ground has actually been robust as of today. I am APPALLED at how Trump, Fox News et al are trying to weaponize this storm. It pisses me right the fuck off.

I’m feeling this dookie on dookie violence.
DukeMu is cool. REALLY intelligent professor. But he's wrong on this though.

The comment about getting the supplies there and then they get destroyed (which well could have happened) is so valid. There were damn tornado warnings in Boone of all places. I have never heard of that before in my 46 years.

Trump is indeed being called out for lying about the FEMA response. The best photo ops are the ones Andreas did. You let others show the onslaught of effort. Remember Katrina's response wasn't getting the vicious post-mortem attack 3 days later. 2 weeks later, absolutely.

Like could anyone have imagined that 40 would be cut off at Old Fort?? I have never seen that. The pass to Tennessee along the Pigeon, sure...landslides there happen like monthly.

Jose Diaz tries to take the same approach "where are all the resources? why arent you prepared?" earlier in this interview (watch) North Carolina reels from Helene's devastation as crews rush to deliver aid

But the sheriff does tell him they prepared - but no one was prepared or could have prepared for this scale. They were prepared to be without power a couple of days, downed trees and some flooding. NOT prepared to lose entire towns. I mean did anyone imagine the tiny Broad River upstream of Lake Lure (it's usually a trickle and not a very big watershed at that point) to wipe Chimney Rock off the face of the earth??? GTFOH if you think that was possible.

In my mind I'm imagining minisoldr dealing with this as governor.

What does the GOP think you get when you elevate crazy incompetence?
He actually showed up to Buncombe, I believe. I saw several police cars- more than I had seen in a few days - escorting a vehicle.

Westbound is cut off at Statesville.

I took westbound I-40 from 16 in Conover to 321 in Hickory today — was surprised to find it open, but took a chance my maps program was right.
