I thought the scene in the Godfather where Tom Hagen introduces himself to the movie producer was insightful. The producer was trying to bait him into conflict by using epithets to insult his people, but Hagen kept his calm and focused on business. That's excellent character development. In general, the Godfather does a credible job of portraying the anti-Italian bias in parts of the country in the heyday of the mafia. It's a throwback to the days when Italians were not considered "white" as unproblematically as now.
P.S. If the thread title offends you, that's your fault. I'm literally quoting from the movie, and as we know, the movie isn't racist against Italians. Quite the opposite.
