Hornets sign Armando Bacot

Well, if there’s a definite sign that Armando is NOT an NBA caliber player, it’s being signed by the Bobcats….oops…..Hornets.

I heard about it on local sports talk radio yesterday afternoon. I guess they were just hearing rumors as well although they usually try to verify stuff before reporting it. I wish it were true.

Mondo’s likely best option is a deal in China. Play 6-10 years. Bank some $$$$. Learn the language.

Return to the US full-time and pursue a business or broadcasting career.

Mondo isn't going to be playing in the NBA. He has nowhere near the skills.
Quite a grand proclamation against a guy who can board with anyone anywhere, and has boosted his 3-point range (36%) and FTs (79%). I watched a few of his G league games and he has definitely come along.

Slow feet of course so he’ll never be a great defender, but it would not be far fetched for him to get a chance.

This Armando Bacot?

“For the first time in the history of the rivalry between Duke and North Carolina, the two programs met in the NCAA Tournament, and Bacot stole the show. He notched 11 points and had a truly dominant night on the glass with a whopping 21 rebounds. No one else in the game had more than 10.

“Krzyzewski was so impressed by Bacot that he took time after the loss to personally congratulate Bacot on his effort…”

Problem: he's 25. His development curve is basically done, according to everything I've read about player development. He doesn't have a position. He can't play 5, and he's not quick enough for 4, and he's not good enough on offense to make up for that. He would be a stationary shooter best case scenario, and that's not what teams want out of big men.

It's really hard to stick in the league these days with rebounding as the signature skill. Guys like Drummond have been bench players for years, and Drummond was a good shotblocker and even more elite on the boards than Bacot.

Yeah that’s all fine but a guy who averaged 18 and 10 in the G league with his percentages can’t reasonably be dismissed as having “nowhere near the skills” to play in the NBA.
