On a personal level, here are a few things I expect to impact me (I’ll add more to this list as I think it over):

1. No further hope of student loan forgiveness. Potentially an end to the PSLF program I’ve been enrolled in for 7 years. Dashing any notions of buying a home.

2. My job will be in danger. I work for a nonprofit research org—the bulk of my work is funded through federal grants from CDC, CMS, etc. The funding always dips during R administrations, but there’s a high likelihood that much of it will dry up entirely with Trump, Musk, and RFK Jr at the helm.

3. My girlfriend’s career (and mental health) will be greatly impacted. As noted in another thread, she’s an immigration attorney who’s worked in nonprofits for a couple decades, helping underprivileged and abused women and children. So…yeah.

How about you?

I work for the federal government. Our budget will probably be slashed. Thinking about retiring.

Oh, and my wife does too. We're both under HHS. It's going to be ugly.

I think healthcare in this country will get worse, intentionally. Lots of federal money will flow into quack “research” and into the hands of kleptocrats. As a result, I think the value added aspects of healthcare, like rehabilitation, will get dramatically cut.

Ttump, thiel, and Musk have no interest in a well society. At least in thiel and Musks cases, they just want unmitigated access to the public coffers in effort to live forever or escape the planet or build literal castle cities. They’ll steal from every source of public funds for the gain of hundreds, at the harm of hundreds of millions.

I’m in construction and imagine a specific material that I in install will go through the roof due to tarrifs. And we make abou 200k a year so I imagine my taxes will go up while millionaires will pay less.
I’m concerned about some kind of war kicking off, China, Russia, Ukraine whatever. My advice to my kids is go to jail not war.

Probably not much for me and my wife directly. We're old enough that living out his term can't be taken for granted. I do worry about my kids and grandkids and their future.
ditto

I am a soon to be 73yo straight white male who is financially well to do. Me and the missus will not suffer family separation or a mass deportation. A national abortion, IVF, and contraception ban will not impact us. A return to high inflation will not impact us. We carry zero debt.

I do have concerns for my kids and especially my grandkids who may have to adapt and survive the transition from a democracy to an idiocracy...

I don't think us "normal gays" are in too much near-term danger. their main social focus will be on trans, etc.

In retrospect, that freedom of marriage act was such a massive piece of protective legislation, that my marriage will be recognized across state lines, even if Obergefell goes down.

I think healthcare is fucked. RFK will do some clear damage (however, if he does focus on removing additives and junk in food, that could be good). I am glad I am not needing big construction done because if immigrants are removed that will kill that industry

I doubt RFK will be able to conquer the food lobbyists. They will just bribe Trump.

With 2 kids under 5 in NC, I feel good about Stein having veto power and Hunt/Jackson/Green winning their races. As a state employee, I'm worried about Briner winning Treasurer - he's on record believing we put too much into the state pension. After years of Folwell overseeing it, holding a ton of it in cash, and the resulting low returns (worst in the country, I believe...), I’m gonna start saving like it won’t be there for me in 20 years.

Question is, what to do with market investments before these tariffs hit. My dad’s, especially, as he’ll be retiring in a year or so.

And I fear all the international ripple effects of another Trump presidency are impossible to overestimate - Russia taking Ukraine and possible war in Europe, Trump pulling the plug on NATO, Xi having a green light on Taiwan, and the overall switch from democracy to corrupt oligarchic kleptocracy.

It’ll probably be really, really bad.

They will likely end the pension for new hires before killing it for existing employees. I mean, they wont want most state employees to stay long anyhow

Would think mass deportation would also devastate the construction industry.

straight white cis male living in another country with no debt, two international properties and a generally recession proof career (currently working three jobs technically, two of them because I am the only one here who can do it and I am willing to help the locals) and a solid nest egg.

Unless he tanks the global economy, and he can, he is not likely to harm me. I hate that he can harm a lot of others and my wife and I agreed to help what we can. Already made some donations this morning.

That said, it could all fall apart quickly, but at that point everyone is going to be buried in the rubble along with me. It's frustrating to see those in a more precarious situation that want to pull the roof down, but they are determined to do so....

Straight, white wealthy male with (mostly) grown children living in a solidly blue enclave. My assets will probably be fine in the coming inflation. Mostly I think the shit will hit the fan both domestically and internationally within the next fivish years. Decent chance that is when we really face revolution/civil war/hard core autocracy. Pretty concerned, especially for the kids.

Hard to answer this question. In the short term, probably not much at all. The economy is better than it has ever been, despite what the mouth breathing electorate were led to believe. But long term... I'm afraid we will all suffer greatly.

The Supreme Court has already started to dilute constitutionally based Miranda protections. They've also decided that civil rights laws, at least to the extent they prohibit sexual orientation discrimination, must sometimes yield to religious objections. They're already rejecting efforts to keep church and state separate. The law of the land is already profoundly different than it would be... and it will only get worse. We likely won't know the entirety of this outcome in our lifetime.

This presidency is going to affect everyone on Earth. Catastrophic climate change now has a 100% chance of occurring, and it will accelerate.

Massive war in Europe is possible. Putin now sees that there are no consequences and he will not stop in Ukraine.

China will take Taiwan. That's basically a done deal at this point.

The economy will probably crash and the impact of that will reverberate globally.
