I think there's one angle where it looks like the car grazed the officer (though the driver was clearly turning away from him).
The car makes contact with the guy, there's no question about that.

But if you watch all of the videos/angles, starting under the assumption she's trying to run him over, that assumption falls apart pretty quickly, since she could have easily done so. All she had to do was keep her wheels straight, or even turn to the left slightly, and it would have been a direct hit. But she did the complete opposite of that.

That won't stop intellectually dishonest people like JD Vance and the rest of this administration, or completely stupid people (like maga posters here apparently) from believing that she was trying to run him over (or that she actually ran him over, if you're brain dead like Trump).

I guess (one of) the thing I’m struggling with is why was ICE engaged with this woman at all? She’s a U.S. citizen so pretty clearly not an immigration issue. It would appear they have a pass to just confront anyone they want now. As a U.S. citizen, white male, in a very left-leaning city, if ICE approaches me should I just “comply” with whatever they ask so I don’t get shot?

I just sent my congressman David Rouzer imploring him to get off his butt and save our constitution. He's MAGA, so it was probably a waste of time, but hopefully his office is getting bombarded to the point that he realizes his office depends on it. Thats all they care about anyway. Personal power.

Yeah the characterization by Noem, Vance, etc of a deranged leftist trying to use her car as a weapon is pretty plainly absurd. Not that it will matter to them.

Fair enough. I haven't even seen an angle that shows contact, but I'll assume it's out there.

The irony is that if she'd hit the guy hard, there's a good chance she'd be alive today because he wouldn't have been able to shoot her at point blank range. She'd be in a world of hurt, but at least her kid wouldn't be an orphan.

From the November Current Events thread about a cop acquitted of the murder of a pregnant women accused of shoplifting.

For all the whining apologists do when it comes to the dangers of the job, you’d think some might recognize the best way to not have a car moving towards you is to not stand in front of it. His actions contributed to the situation in which he “feared for his life.” Standing in front of the car is not helpful in any way there.
That case was different as that woman very much did hit the officer and I believe he was on the hood of her car when he fired.

maybe but she might still be dead as i'm sure the rest of the brownshirts on the scene would've opened fire on her.

legally speaking, they absolutely don't have a pass to just confront and accost and arrest anyone they want. as discussed earlier itt, their job is essentially paperwork crime enforcement. they're only supposed to detain and arrest people who they have reasonable suspicion to believe are illegal immigrants. but they're doing whatever they want anyway because they're totally unsupervised and their handlers (this disgusting admin) want this kind of thing happening.

the violence and the fear and the intimidation are the point. they want us all scared and hiding.

The point is that for all the concern about the dangers of the job, don’t stand in front of a vehicle with the engine running and someone behind the wheel. The fact that they do this frequently carries the same stench as when they yell Stop Resisting at someone who is clearly not resisting. It’s pretext for rage induced thuggery.

The thing that's so infuriating about this is how the admin always feels the need to lie even more brazenly than they need to. The shooting is arguably justified, under existing precedent, if the officer reasonably feared that the driver was trying to hit him with the car. (I personally find that body of law completely wrongheaded, especially in that it essentially allows officers like this one to create the danger that then is allowed to justify their shooting, and also internally inconsistent, but it is what it is.) It doesn't have to be a "radical leftist maliciously turning her car into a weapon like she was trained to do as a domestic terrorist." But they still feel the need to tell these obvious lies because it's baked into their whole strategy of constant online radicalization and mobilization of their base.

Logically speaking (and I know that’s a stretch for this Admin or anyone who supports them) if ICE is trying to do their job…legit immigration enforcement…and the local population is preventing that, shouldn’t local law enforcement be called in to address that? But we’re living in a world where they just pull guns and do whatever they want. Scary times and getting scarier by the day.

Perhaps, but the woman in the other case had also committed a crime. The officer was also standing directly in front of her vehicle, not off to the side. She saw him, put the vehicle in drive, and drove into him. The cases are similar but not the same, and the nuances matter.

It would appear that Trump want's ICE to be his version of Hitler's Storm Troopers. Its amazing how these autocratic wantabe's use the same playbook.

They aren’t the same, with the exception of a dumb cop (or worse, one who was itching to kill a woman) unnecessarily putting himself in harm’s way.

I think they were going to try to detain her or arrest her for blocking the street or obstructing justice or whatever. The guy walking out to the car was yelling to her to shut the car off. Then the other guy shot her when she started pulling away.

And I am also a us citizen, a white guy in a left leaning city and I'm going to comply. Every single time. I doubt that woman thought that running away was going to get her killed but things can turn bad really fast with these under trained yahoo's or even professional police.

Sorting all that out later is what the courts are for. Getting rid of the guys running the show is what the ballot box is for. Nonviolent protests can also be effective, which is what most of these folks are doing.
