The federal government’s lenient work-from-home policies have resulted in millions of square feet of office space sitting empty across the nation, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office.

The problem is they aren’t looking at shedding unused office buildings, they’re looking at ending telework, which, without laying off a bunch of federal workers would actually increase costs. Some agencies will need more office space, and the federal government pays for public transit use by federal employees which would increase significantly with a 5 day RTO.
