Is it too early for protests?

I've asserted that we are in a race where Trump is consolidating authoritarian level powers while also making moves that will result in widespread pain.

To most Americans, if they are even aware of what is going on they would consider the moves to consolidate power as just some academic concern. They are not paying enough attention to see the bigger picture.

Protests right now are small and the right will simply convince the average American that these are just crazy anti-Trump liberals with TDS. I believe we may have to wait until the pain really begins. The problem with that is that we run a risk that waiting for the pain to begin may be too late as Trump/Musk seize all powers for themselves.

I think protests right now would be ineffective for the reasons you said - they would be relatively small and would likely only be ridiculed by right-wing media and Trumpers as a whole. There is a danger in waiting, but until the danger or economic pain becomes great enough that large numbers (millions) of people would be willing to protest (as has happened in South Korea recently) then protests are highly unlikely to do much, imo. They're riding high right now and will continue to do so for awhile, but somewhere down the line I do think something will happen that will lead to a more aggressive and organized resistance. It may be too late at that point, but I don't see what good small protests right now would do.

Like the post above I agree it is a dilemea.It is looking like we are gonna have to let it all crash-hopefilly the courts will "Protest" to a degree that hurrys all that up

I agree with much of this, but I will also add that the current set of protests are primarily to develop voices for if, and when, major protests do occur. What has been lacking from the left's protest movement over the last few decades is a group of identifiable voices (which is part of what made the Civil Rights and American Indian Movements a success) who will play a leadership role in the movement over the next four years. Without those voices, the protests will not be as successful.

I've come to the acceptance that there is literally nothing that will cause anyone who voted for Trump the third time to have any introspective regret or second thoughts or to even acknowledge that they fucked up. Literally nothing. It's going to require the bottom to completely fall out economically- which could be well on its way to happening. Obviously, it goes without saying that I am not hoping that this happens. I'll never, ever cheer for adverse outcomes for our country or its citizens just to score points against political opponents. I'd much rather President Trump preside over a booming economy and a flourishing America, even if I ultimately disagree with him on almost all policy. But I think we are headed for economic disaster as a direct result of this Trumpian blitzkrieg, so I do think that's the only way *some* folks are going to see the light: when their SS, Medicare, veterans benefits, etc. get slashed.

I really don't think the lumpen MAGA are balls deep in the esoteric political maneuverings of Bannon and Yarvin, which is evidenced by the simple fact that they think Musk is a billionaire Robin Hood, robbing from the deep state to give to them at some undisclosed time in the future.

Of course they aren’t deep into the maneuverings. Most Democratic voters don’t even know that this is a concerted strategy. That’s why it’s important that people who do know start doing the work now to exploit these contradictions.

Republicans seem to always understand the fragmentations within the Democratic base and know exactly how to exploit them. Democrats need to do the same so that, when the bottom does fall out, there is a narrative.

Something must be done beyond just waiting. Dems can fundraise all they want over the next four years. It doesn’t matter if there aren’t free and fair elections. Our democracy is being dismantled before our eyes and most Democratic pols seem content to sit and wait for things to fall apart.

Right now we have to assume effectively ~35-40% of the country is dedicated to don in the manner they claim to be dedicated to Jesus. I think don has to schism the populists vs tech theocrats, and about the only way I see that happening is if don is threatened; nobody really gives a shit about Bannon. Highlighting the unpopularity of musk, and the idea musk is the true president may be only way to get inside the personified id that is Donald Trump.

According to Gil Duran, the tech oligarchs initially wanted to try this strategy of government takeover in San Francisco. Trump’s election and selection of Vance accelerated their timeline and widened their horizon. They’re moving too fast are are bound to hit a bump.
