Sounds like the Southport shooter shouldn't have been able to get a gun with his mental health history. But of course he used an assault rifle. We just have to remember what's important is one right-wing YouTuber was killed a couple of weeks ago.

“… Responding police exchanged fire with the gunman, who died, Renye said. Renye said the suspect is a 40-year-old man, whom he didn’t name, and said police need to investigate the motive.

He said 10 people were hospitalized with gunshot injuries, including the person who died. He didn’t identify the deceased or any of those who were injured. The police expect to find more victims in the church once it is safe to search it. The fire was contained shortly before 1 p.m….”

Grand Blanc is just outside Flint, Mich., and about 50 miles northwest of Detroit.

Bingo. But remember Kirk was one of Jesus disciples.

Just watched a some Netflix romance movie last weekend that took place in Southport, based on Nicholas Sparks book. Got one thinking how it'd be a nice place to visit. I'm sure many of ZZLers have been. What an effed up world we've become, with Trump, tariffs, ICE, et al. the cherry on top.
Safe Haven?

Oddly enough, despite being born and raised in Eastern NC and living in NC for at least half my life, the closest I've ever come to Southport, is taking the ferry to/from Fort Fisher. I have never actually stopped in Southport to look around. That is an omission I really should rectify before I move on to whatever is next. Growing up, beach trips were day trips. Atlantic Beach was a LONG one-day day trip. (Especially if we stopped in New Bern to get a PEPSI-COLA, which we usually whined long enough to make that happen.) Topsail Island was an easy one-day trip, that was like a little over an hour away. During the winter, if the Blues started running, there was time to get a phone call, drive to the Jolly Roger Pier on Topsail, and cast for some Blues. And Wrightsville Beach was a pretty solid depart early morning and get back just as it was getting dark trip.

Given that you have apparently spent a significant portion of your life in Lumberton, NC, I will accept your characterization of this being a "sad place" as an expert opinion.

That has been repeated often here and at ZZLP when posters trying to take a shot at me and I have never answered as I will now. We are a county with 7O percent POC, lots of poverty, the effects of Jim Crow etc. Obviously crime is an issue because it's attached poverty. So, yea, sad place but it seems to garner scorn not sympathy. I've worked in many ways to make this place better.

Every one of those small cities I bet voted for Trump. No mention from the WH and no consideration for National Guard deployment
