It is not a relevant fact that the shooter was trans (and we don't even know if that's true in this case). I merely pointed out that if there is an increase in trans shooters, it has nothing to do with being trans, and everything to do with the factors that predict mass shootings.
Exactly. The way trans people are treated by the bigots in this country, it's amazing that they are not lashing out in greater numbers.

“…
A birthday celebration was taking place at the venue when the shooting occurred, according to an Instagram post from DJ Fresh. The event was scheduled to start at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28.

An altercation occurred amid the celebrations that may have been linked to the shooting.

A witness said he saw a person “involved in an altercation with four to five people” while being “knocked unconscious” on the floor. Around 15 minutes, he saw “three dudes came from the back and shoot the club up and ran out the way they came in,” per Fox19 Cincinnati.…”

“… The gunman reportedly stormed the bar with a handgun and an assault rifle, according to the Austin-American Statesman.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has joined the investigation into the mass shooting — indicating that the motive of the attack could be related to terrorism….”

You won’t see the MAGA folks commenting on these mass shootings unless it was done by a member of the LBGQT community or someone from the Middle East.
The latter may be the case … but as always, let’s all hang tight and wait for details.

I live two blocks from Bufords with many retired folk who ended up here during the silver tsunami. It isn’t the seedier side of 6th street but a slightly higher end crowd. We walk past here all the time. Imagine violence in a place where guns are carried openly, alcohol is served and mostly 20-30 year olds frequent. Who knew

I live in Austin and when I first saw the headline this morning I assumed it happened on the other side of town at “diry 6th”, which is like Austin’s shitty version of Bournon street. It’s adjacent to a bunch of live music venues and used to be a fun place to bar hop, but it’s gotten progressively sketchier over the years. Not uncommon for there to be massive fights between groups of people there on weekend nights, so my first thought is something like that happened and got out of hand. Still would be incredibly tragic obviously, but selfishly I would be able to come to grips with that easier.

The area where this actually happened is mainly college-aged/young 20s bars at night, but I would say is still considered safe nightlife by most people. Hate to speculate, but the fact that the perpetrator used both an AR and pistol sure makes it sound premeditated vs. a fight gone wrong, which is even scarier imo.

Have been at that bar until closing plenty of times in my younger days. Just sad stuff all around.

It’s interesting how it’s not uncommon for various nightlife scenes to evolve in this way. It has happened with certain parts of Charlotte’s uptown nightlife scene. It started happening before Covid, but I think Covid exacerbated it. It also happened briefly with Charlotte’s NC Music Factory. Interestingly, Covid probably kept that from continuing there as it resulted in almost everything there, other than the concert venues, closing permanently.
