Might Trump abandon project 2025

I think there is a real possibility that Trump will abandon project 2025 and DOGE.

I think this for several reasons:

1. DOGE will become more and more unpopular as time passes and more people are directly impacted. Trump desperately wants to be adored.

2. Project 2025 has a lot of socially conservative elements to it. I think Trump has no real interest in non-race related social conservatism but only uses it for political purposes.

3. Likewise, Trump doesn’t really care about fiscal conservatism. He certainly doesn’t care about our long term fiscal health.

4. Right now DOGE firings are providing cover for Trump’s firing of high level people in the military and FBI.

Trump wants money and power. He is using DOGE and project 2025 to further these goals. He is keeping them as allies while he is busy consolidating power.

One clarification, when I say abandoning project 2025 I mean the parts of it that aren’t directly related to achieving authoritarianism.

Which parts of Project 2025 aren’t directly related to achieving authoritarianism? The Heritage Foundation strongly believes in the Unitary Executive.

Regarding Trump abandoning DOGE and/or Project 2025, he might abandon Musk/DOGE when Musk becomes unpopular.

He’s not going to be able to kick out Project 2025. The Heritage Foundation/Project 2025/Freedom Caucus people learned from Trump 1.0 - they are populating this Administration with their people (the Cabinet Secretaries/Agency heads are often Trump loyalists; but, the next tiers down are Heritage/Freedom Caucus people). They know Trump is inattentive and incompetent.

Trump (and Musk) are great for breaking things; they aren’t able to manage the government. Project 2025 will do as it wishes.

Who knows how long the cabinet picks and all the Russell Vought types will last, but almost feels like the damage is done.

I guess direct agenda is up in the air, to the bidder of the strongest sicophants, to your point.

You’re right.

I probably should have just said DOGE. DOGE is sort of creation of Project 2025 (though not sure how much of what Musk is doing is described in P2025) and the other big parts are related to authoritarianism and border security. The stuff that is left isn’t really enough to discuss.

Heritage would like more anti-abortion and more Christian-nationalism if they could get it... Trump cares nothing about those aside for fun pics of him, Jesus, crosses, the flag and a cool eagle

But Trump isn’t going to do anything to reel them in, specifically because he likes the fact that Heritage/2025 types treat him as the 2nd coming of Christ.

So he’ll continue to give tacit approval for whatever they want, while simultaneously disavowing any connection to them—as he did during his election campaign.

He would have to fire tons of people in his own administration, who he allowed Project 2025 to staff. So, no.
Trump sets the agenda. They aren’t doing anything he disapproves of. Trump has all of the power in the equation. They would have to quit and Trump would just say they are too radical and that would be that. Trump wouldn’t lose a bit of public support.

And, keep in mind, he would have to wait until he has full power first.

Project 2025 is the wet dream of Republicans to roll back every progressive/liberal advance since at least the New Deal, and maybe the Progressive Era. Now that they're so close to their goal they're not going to give it up, and given the number of Project 2025 people Trump has appointed I don't think he's going to back off either. It would have to become extremely unpopular - as in riots/massive street protests, Trump being loudly booed and targeted even by some Republicans, or some level of opposition we haven't seen yet - for him to back off. And by that time it will likely be too late anyway as the damage will have already been done. I think what's going to happen is that the next Democratic President and Congress - whether it's in 2029 or 2033 or whenever - is going to have to begin the slow and painful process of rebuilding what has been torn down piece by piece, and probably trying to fix our foreign policy issues he's creating as well. It may well take decades to undo the damage Project 2025 is causing and will cause, if ever.

Until Vought is gone, trump is knee deep in the shit pile of project 2025.

Vought associates and acolytes are being appointed to all sorts of Undersecretary or Deputy Director or Deputy Whatever positions in the Trump Administration. They’re being named to non-political positions so they’re more difficult to fire than political appointees.

Vought’s been preparing for this for years. His SmartPhone is filled with contact info for right-wing zealots who’ve had wet dreams for decades to gut the government.

Firing Vought won’t accomplish much until a Democratic President AND Congress work to fix this mess….,and, it might also take a Democratic SCOTUS (first chance at that is what? 2060? 2065? 2070?).
