You know, I try to feel a little sympathy for terrorists. Nobody is born a terrorist. These people were born in a part of the world, and into a culture, that brainwashed otherwise good people into believing all kinds of crazy things.

But.....I mean.... How dumb can you be?

Unless you have lived abroad, literally none of us know what it is like to live in a country where the threat of missile launches, on any given day, is a reality. As a person who has dealt with (until recently) undiagnosed anxiety since I was a small child, and had severe PTSD for much of the last decade, I cannot imagine the level of compound stress that would cause, or how that would impact my reality.

At most, some of the elders on this board recall the threat of nuclear war during the height of the Cold War, while others have fought abroad. But to experience bombing at home? Where our children go to school? At our hospitals? We don't get that. On some level, we can't get that, and I hope we never will.

We have got to develop a greater sense of empathy for people within countries that do experience war/bombings on a regular basis, regardless of whether we agree with the policies of the people who run those countries.

So. Yes. Terrorism is abhorrent. This action will likely lead to more suffering everywhere. But I can honestly say that I have seen Americans thirst for war and power largely because they no longer understand what the consequences of such things are; for Palestinians and Israelis alike, that isn't the case. They understand war. They live their lives in a level of fear that is simply outside of most of our levels of understanding. After generations of war, it becomes part and parcel of your daily lived experience.

So I have a lot more sympathy for them right now than I do for some folks in our country.

Can't really understand why they would be launching missiles at Israel. They are fighting the Yemini government and the Saudis. Seems like they would have more than enough on their plate without bothering with a country 2000 miles away.

I'm guessing it's Iran saying we'll continue supporting you but you also need to shoot off some missiles at Israel for us because we don't like them and we don't like what they're doing in Gaza or Lebanon but we also don't want them bombing us.

Feels like a “we’re still here” kind of move.

It's a response to the US attack covered play by play with time, target, and method on the Signal app. Their missiles can't reach the US. But they could reach Israel. It's an act of war not terrorism, if we're being technical.

You mean an act of battle?

They're also fighting, to some degree, the US.

I know martyrdom is big in their religion, but holy crap....
