‘More female and less white’: Missouri AG accuses Starbucks of violating anti-discrimination laws

“… In a lawsuit formally filed Tuesday, Bailey claims the company engaged in race-and-sex-based hiring practices, unlawfully segregated employees and offered certain training and employment benefits exclusively to select groups.

… He further alleges that initiatives designed to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) ultimately amount to unlawful discrimination.

The filing, citing employment data from 2020 and 2024, asserted that Starbucks’ workforce has become “more female and less white” over time. Bailey contends that the coffee chain uses quotas to shape its workforce and board of directors, arguing that its policies disadvantage other employees. …”

While it seems absolutely stupid to me, it's not really that surprising.

I'm guessing that there are a lot of Republicans who'd like nothing more than to get a court ruling that DEI is discriminatory as a way of putting an end to it beyond government policies and intimidation.

I wonder if Missouri's AG Andrew Bailey is going to sue school systems when he learns the ratios of female and minority teachers are far above their percentage in the us workforce as a whole. And what about the predominance of females working in school cafeteria jobs? Is that discriminatory? Will he also sue health care systems demanding more male nurses?

I suspect he would sue if those school systems were only offering certain training to blacks and women or were using discriminatory quotas in hiring.

If women tend to self select for teaching, they do, and that is the reason for the disparity, it is, I don't think they will be sued.

You have no more idea if that is true than if the women at Starbucks have done the same. They're being sued.

That's true. I don't know. Nor does anyone else. I guess if we can't comment until we know what is in the mind of a lawyer in Missouri, we might as well shut the thread down.

Not my board. Feel free to comment. Feel even more free to put some thought into them.

Proof middle America is convinced affirmative action , anti discrimination stole their jobs. And they have a score to settle and they are going to burn this country down if they can.
If we burn them simultaneously, it will at least provide some much needed dopamine hits. Do it!

I, for one, am shocked about this story, as well as GT, useless **** #3, defending it. Shocked!!

It's sort of astonishing that a conservative Pub is basing a discrimination lawsuit based on outcomes. If courts can conclude discrimination from hiring percentages, it will not end well for the conservatives.

Give it time, he or some other GOP pol will get there. At least he's pretty open about the bigotry at this point. I wish other Trumpers were as brave, instead of couching their beliefs behind evasion and bosiding and lies.

Maybe some of these job stealing Starbucks women can transition to males to balance things out.

That’s actually more realistic than expecting young straight men to put down their video games and bitcoin fantasies, go to school, and get a fucking job.
