That is unfortunate Maybe some of the European Countries should consider doing likewise for Ukraine
They might. The problem is sending troops from a democracy to a war zone in another country is a lot different than when a brutal dictator sends troops to another country.

Yeah, the North Korean troops are probably safer on the front lines.

1500 is a hilariously low figure. It's barely even worth the logistics and coordination issues (and language?)

First 1500 of suspected 11000

SK should by sending a few dozen…trainers to show Ukraine how to operate a few hundred Hyunmoos they Sens with them

Makes you wonder what sort of screening North Korea did in order to deter these first 1,500 from immediately defecting to Ukraine with the objective of "Coming to America." If I were one of the North Korea soldiers with thoughts of defectting and eventually getting to America, then I would wait until after this year's election was decided.

Even 11,000 is fairly meaningless. That's like 10 days of Russian casualties.

North Korea Sending ‘Large-Scale’ Troop Deployments to Fight in Ukraine War, Seoul Says

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol convened an emergency security meeting Friday, with Seoul slamming the North's move as "a significant security threat not only to our country but also to the international community," the president's office said.

The NIS said it had "detected that from the 8th to the 13th [of October], North Korea transported its special forces to Russia via a Russian Navy transport ship, confirming the start of North Korea's military participation" in Moscow's war against Ukraine.

According to the spy agency, multiple Russian landing ships and frigates have already completed transporting the first contingent of troops, who are currently stationed in military bases across Russia's Far East.

The special forces soldiers "are expected to be deployed to the front lines [of the war in Ukraine] as soon as they complete acclimatization training," it said. The soldiers have been issued Russian military uniforms and Russian-made weapons, the NIS added.

"This seems to be an effort to disguise the fact that they are North Korean troops by making them appear as Russian soldiers," the spy agency said.

More troops are likely to be sent to Russia soon, South Korean officials said, adding that it estimated the North could send around 12,000 soldiers in total. "A second transport operation is expected to take place soon," they said.

I wonder how many would try to defect.
I feel like I’ve already read stories about soldiers defecting as soon as they got there. Would be a pretty smart thing to do IMO. Russians won’t go chasing after them because they would get taken out by the Ukrainians.

They are supposed to be going there to get experience. I am not sure how many will actually return the meat grinder style of Russian combat.

I was surprised to learn that NK's population is made up of what the government considers the "hostile class". Which is how these type of dictatorships work. Iraq's Saddam did the same. As long as you create a 30% privilege class, you maintain power.
