Can't say I watch it as much as I used to. But, I just wanted to start a thread discussing it (so that I can hop back in), along with saying that Tubbs is out...again:

fat dookie

I don't watch it-cause I watch all kinds of College stuff. I do think the palyers are tremendous. But the court-the rim-needs adjustments. It is too easy for these giants

It ain’t easy when they have other guys just as big and athletic as they are playing defense for the other team.

For the first time, the NBA All-Star Game will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. Two teams will meet in one semifinal (Game 1), and the remaining two teams will meet in the other semifinal (Game 2). The winning teams from Game 1 and Game 2 will advance to face each other in the championship (Game 3). For each game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points.

Each team will have eight players and be named for a TNT NBA analyst. The 24 NBA All-Star selections will be divided evenly into three teams, with the rosters drafted by TNT’s Inside the NBA commentators and honorary team general managers Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith. The three analysts will make their respective picks for Team Charles, Team Shaq and Team Kenny live on TNT in the NBA All-Star Draft, which will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 6 just before the network’s doubleheader that night.

The fourth team will be the winning team from the championship game of the Castrol Rising Stars, the annual showcase of top first- and second-year NBA players and NBA G League standouts, which will be played on Friday, Feb. 14 during NBA All-Star 2025. TNT analyst and WNBA legend Candace Parker will serve as honorary GM of the Rising Stars champion, known as Team Candace.

Social media's consensus seems to be that perhaps not getting embarrassed by rookies will cause the star players to try a little harder.

Not sure what it is but I've watched close 0 mins of NBA to start the season. Normally watch and keep up with the league as early as October

I have been watching a lot more college bball fwiw (and some CFB) to take its place

Bold to think the rookies will care either

I guess you have to try something, and it certainly can't be worse than what we've seen the last several years

But NBA ASG might just be a lost cause in general

I actually like watching the games, but I hate when I go to YTTV to watch a recording and 90% of the games I have to pay extra for.
Just not worth it. So, I don't watch many because the ones I want to watch are not available.

One thing for certain about LeBron, he works hard and is in incredible shape.

Will his work ethic rub off on Luka?

Either the Mavs GM is an utter imbecile, or there's much, much more to the story. I mean, KD was traded for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and FOUR 1st rounders, at ten years older.
No, the “more to the story” is if Luka stays with the Mavs, he would be eligible for a $345 million super max deal after next season. The Mavs don’t want to invest that kind of money in a player who misses games because he doesn’t take care of his body like a professional. It is my understanding the locker room was down on Luka because he won’t stay in shape and if the Mavs drop that kind of cash on him and he misses a lot of games by his lack of discipline, they are sunk.

That super max deal is off the table after the trade, the max the Lakers can offer is $229 million so this trade potentially cost Luka $116 million. So the risk for the Lakers is substantially less than the risk would have been for the Mavs if Luka flames out.

As always, follow the money.

I don't understand why people are ignoring AD. The Mavs are getting a great player in return. AD is a candidate for runner-up DPOY (Wemby has the title on lockdown for a while), and he's been productive this year. So they are trading a superstar for a lesser superstar and a pick. Hardly an imbecilic move.

When you realize that this isn't mean to be a dump into rebuilding, but rather an attempt to stay competitive while transitioning, what other offers would be out there? It's not as if OKC will be trading SGA or Denver trading Jokic or anything of the sort. My guess is that AD was the best player the Mavs could get.

And finally, there are real questions about how valuable Doncic really is. His +/- numbers have never been particularly good. They aren't the be-all and end-all of stats, and can be misleading in some cases. But Doncic is a high-usage player who isn't all that efficient (I could be wrong about that), who doesn't play defense because he's out of shape, and who is a ball stopper extraordinaire. The Mavs offense with him and Kyrie is often "my turn, your turn."

I think this will end up being a bad trade for LA in the end, unless they can get Luka to work out and stop missing so much time with injuries. And I'm not sure about the fit between Lebron and Luka. The fact that they did this trade tells me that the Lakers expect Lebron to retire at year's end, or are at least prepping for the possibility.
