And money. Otherwise our third parties are going to be vanity vehicles for the likes of Bloomberg, Musk, Perot, etc.To deal with the issue of two dominant parties you have to address the systemic cause: first past the post voting and single member districts.
Anything short of that is not going to produce the desired results.
You’d have to do away with how federal House seats are apportioned and abolish the Senate.Cut out winner takes all.
All parties get a seat at the table and can caucus across lines.
Your party wins 7% of the vote… they get 7% of the seats in Congress.
And they can coalesce together to cause gridlock when necessary or caucus with the party that wants to ensure democracy and oust the oligarchs. There are ways around it… plenty of examples in other socially democratic and representative style governments.
Compared to the way Trump and Musk want to abolish the Constitution and do away with the non-partisan civil servants and established institutions which have proven themselves to be invaluable…. I’d say my idea is much better. You’d have to do away with how federal House seats are apportioned and abolish the Senate.
Oh no. That would be so awful. Darn. You’d have to do away with how federal House seats are apportioned and abolish the Senate.

Here are a few quick updates on our race for NC Supreme Court:
-In case you missed it: on Tuesday, a statewide machine recount confirmed that I’ve won my race for the NC Supreme Court. I’m keeping my seat! The margin didn’t change at all in the recount.
-My opponent has requested a sample hand-to-eye recount. This recount started yesterday and will continue in the days ahead.
-Over 60,000 North Carolinians have had their ballots challenged by my opponent. Many of you have asked how to check if you’re on the list. Here are the steps to follow:
This page has the PDFs of all of the protests for every county.
Click the PDF for your county that is called “Incomplete Reg Protest.” The vast majority of voters are being challenged under this claim.
Use control/command + F to search for your name.
Search the other PDFs for your county the same way.
If Judge Griffin has challenged your vote, I encourage you to share your story on social media using the hashtag #countdontcancel. You can also consider sharing your story more widely. Fill out this Google form, and allies at Progress North Carolina Action can work with you to amplify your story

That's great news - but didn't the bill passed yesterday by the NC GOP legislature stripping the governor of some of his powers take away the governor's control of the NC Elections Board and give it to Republicans? Which means that starting next year the GOP will actually likely gain a permanent majority on the board, which means that in any future elections like this the board would likely have voted to either throw out enough votes to just give the Republican candidate the victory, or voided the election and ordered another election. I dread future elections we have that are this close, as future election boards will almost certainly find creative ways to give Republicans the victory.NC Elections Board Rejects GOP Protests To 60,000 Votes - Law360

NC Elections Board Rejects GOP Protests To 60,000 Votes
Law360 (December 11, 2024, 6:30 PM EST) -- A divided North Carolina State Board of Elections on Wednesday voted to deny a consortium of election protests filed by Republican candidates seeking to discount more than 60,000 ballots from the Nov. 5 election, further cementing incumbent Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs' victory in her contested race with Judge Jefferson Griffin.
The five-person board split largely on party lines in rejecting the election protests, which took aim at ballots cast by overseas and military voters as well as people with allegedly incomplete voter registrations. The board's three Democrats determined voters had not been given adequate notice of the protests, which they said otherwise failed to establish probable cause that a violation of law or irregularity had occurred.
The two Republican members voted in opposition on every matter except one — a protest centered on whether military and overseas voters should have been required to provide a copy of their photo ID with their ballot, which was unanimously rejected.
"I regret that we did not have unanimity in the other matters that we discussed today," board Chair Alan Hirsch, a Democrat, said at the conclusion of Wednesday's meeting.
