A great blue heron has taken up residence at Rocky Mount City Lake.

I had a buck, doe and fawn in my driveway yesterday. I like that better than when they are in my garden.

We saw a dead fawn on side of road yesterday. When we came back home via the same road it’s mother was there right beside the road smelling the fawn. Very sad.

I saw a deer on the side of the road once and someone had tied a balloon to a tree beside it that read Get Well Soon.

We drove down to State Capital today. That mother deer was back. Just more sorrow.

Maybe she killed it. Infanticide among deer is tragically underreported.

The way the fawn was situated it had to be a vehicle, but you could be right.

My dad had a horrible time with deer in his garden. At first he used motion lights and they worked for a while. But, eventually the deer figured out that only the lights came on and nothing else would happen. So they gave my dad the big middle finger and went back to eating his okra, squash and tomato plants. He finally had to put up an electrical fence. The shock was enough to finally keep them away from his plants.

That’s something my dad would have liked. Thanks for sharing. He also had problems with squirrels and rabbits.
