New Tyrannosaur species discovered at North Carolina museum

Interesting but not surprising. They do quite a few of those excavations en bloc and it might be decades before they are cleaned up .pieced together and really examined.

I got a behind the scenes tour of the facility and met the preparators Of this exhibit. Very cool.

I sadly have to own up to the fact that while I am a huge fossil enthusiast and have what is likely one of the better private collections around (documented years ago on a zzl thread now lost in the ether) I had never been to the NC museum of natural history. I was very very impressed. I had a couple of the head curators come to my house to see my fossil and antiquity collection and I think I very much impressed them and they reassured me as to the authenticity of my stuff. They invited me to go with them to montana for a dig one year and I really want to take them up on it before I'm too old to do it.

Would you document that fossil collection again on here? I'd like to see that. Also, are you buying them or collecting them?

I remember your fossil pics. Incredibly fascinating stuff!

I would also like to see those. In addition, I have considered buying fossils in the past, but don't know how to identify trustworthy online sources for the hobby. Any tips griff?

I don't have the time to try and reproduce what I did before which was to describe each in detail. I will share some pics of my study with a few highlights pointed out.
this is the best I can do for an overview. combination of reading/music/museum room I guess.

various items, T rex tooth cast, shark, large trilobite, baby plesiosaur, some fish, vertebra of a duck billed dinosaur and a dwarf mammoth tusk, the thing at the far right is a cave bear penis bone. Humans and whales are the only mammals who do not have a penis bone by the way

these are mostly Greek, Roman, Egyptian and other early antiquities. everything I have was bought from reputable dealers who are still in business and I have certificates of authenticity. Almost all countries now have laws against taking these type of things out of the country but obviously there is a large amount circulating about before those were in existence. My plan is probably to give them to museums when I am no longer able to personally enjoy them. I did talk to the NC natural history museum about the fossils already.

these are mostly Egyptian artifacts and a lot of scarabs and cylinder scrolls/seals. very common and we used to mark pots and other clay items to tell what was in them or who owned them. I have a very close friend who actually collected most everything I have shown here and he sold them to me because he was worried his family would just thrown them out if he got sick. they really would not know what they were. I have done my best to display them in a way he never could and there by try to honor his amazing collection.

Very cool. Thank you. If you get some time in the next few days, can you take a couple close ups on the amber and also a couple of pieces near the front? Are those the teeth?
